Hideo Kojima May Not Be Done Overwriting MGS Games
Look, I love me some Metal Gear Solid, but I don’t love Kojima’s writing. I showed a non-gamer friend who had never before touched or seen any MGS content the opening cutscene of Peace Walker last week, and he described the writing as a very rough draft, which feels about right. Or maybe Konami just needs a better translator. I don’t take issue with the gameplay; Kojima and his team put together a great game in MGS4, and it would have been among the best of this generation were it not for the complete lack of story economy. I get to the point after the jump
So Metal Gear Solid 4 was supposed to be it for Kojima and MGS, but then he made Peace Walker, and now Konami has told Shacknews that Kojima “will continue working on Metal Gear Solid games” in some way or another. And they point out that MGS Rising producer … said this at E3: “I’ve been asked a lot, ‘Is this going to be a side-story or spin-off to the MGS series?’, but what I’m positioning is that there will be a Hideo Kojima game that is MGS, but what we are planning as Kojima Productions is have this Raiden Rising as almost as a standard so that there’s an MGS and the Rising going back-and-forth in the future.”
But don’t forget about Kojima’s unannounced Squeenix project. I guess he’ll keep busy one way or another.
So there you go. I will buy whatever you put out, Hideo Kojima, but I’d love to not have to make a drinking game out of the cutscenes next time.
