High-Def Required for Minecraft Xbox Split-Screen, No Warning

If you’re planning to purchase Minecraft on Xbox 360 for its split-screen capabilities, make sure you have a high-definition television — otherwise, the biggest new feature of the Xbox Live Arcade release won’t work.

That’s taken quite a few players by surprise, according to a Kotaku report. Microsoft doesn’t mention the HD requirement at all in the Xbox Live Arcade — only in in-game prompts like the one above — so some players are purchasing the game and finding that they can’t use it for what they wanted. For many that makes it a waste of $20.

What’s more, Microsoft is reportedly not issuing refunds to at least some angry customers, Kotaku reports. So for the time being, you’ll want to be careful about picking up the game, because it seems that if you drop $20 in Microsoft Points on Minecraft and find it doesn’t work as advertised, you could be out of luck.
