Holy Crap: New Nvidia Driver Claims To Boost Skyrim Performance 25%

Nvidia has a new Geforce driver, just made available today, and they really want you to download this baby. But how can they possibly grab your attention this close to Christmas, when you’re probably busy buying presents and playing Skyrim… hang on a sec. I think I see an angle: Make sure Skyrim fans hear that the new driver is the best thing to happen to the latest Elder Scrolls game since someone got an arrow in the knee.

Brace yourself, everyone: The new R290.53 Driver is specifically presented as a means of optimizing Skyrim, and Nvidia is claiming it will boost the game by an amazing 25% compared to the 290.36 driver. It also gives a higher performance profile to the NVIDIA Control Panel ambient occlusion support and adds a 3D Vision crosshair option. A full list of Skyrim enhancements can be read on Geforce.com.

The new driver also boasts enhancements for Assassin’s Creed: Revelations, PAYDAY: The Heist, Orcs Must Die!, The Old Republic and a slew of other games. But who cares about that? 25% better Skyrim. Download the R290.3 here.

290.36 didn’t work too well on my system. A 25% increase from that would probably still be worse than the 285 drivers on my GTX460, I think.
