UPDATE:
Since the introduction of Windows 7, the original set of instructions that appeared on this page no longer work. Never fear, though — nerd culture abhors a vacuum, and some enterprising coders have stepped in to provide a new solution. Follow along with the steps below to learn how to use a PS3 controller on PC.
1. Download MotioninJoy
Motion in Joy is a Chinese company that makes a relatively straightforward utility for using PS3 controllers with PC’s. Your first step is to download their client from GameFront’s fast, free servers.
2. Unzip and Install the program
The expanded archive will create an .exe file with the same filename. Run it.
3. Run “DS3_tool” and plug in your PS3 controller
When the installation completes, there’ll be a check-box prompting you to run “DS3_tool,” the Motion in Joy client. Leave it checked when you exit the installer. When the program opens, you should see this screen:
When you plug in your PS3 controller to the USB port, Windows will recognize it, and begin installing drivers. This is misleading — even though the installation completes, and the controller shows up in the Device Manager, it will not work.
4. Load the driver
From the screen pictured above, click on “Load driver.” At this point, Windows security will ask you to verify that you want to allow the driver installation process to continue. Since the new versions of Motion in Joy include signed drivers, this step is easier than it used to be. Assent to the installation and you should see a rapid series of messages in the DS3_tool window, pictured below:
If you can’t find the “Load driver” button, or you accidentally end up in a different part of the DS3_tool utility, click on “Driver Manager” to return.
5. Configure the controller
With the driver loaded, your next step will be to configure the controller for use. Click on the “Profiles” tab, pictured below. In order to take full advantage of the DualShock 3′s twin analog sticks and many buttons, you’ll want to select “Playstation 3,” as shown in the picture. Once you’ve selected that setting, hit “Enable,” then “Vibration testing.” If you’ve followed these steps correctly, you should feel your controller vibrate. Motion in Joy also provides a convenient “Game Controller Panel” button, which whisks you directly you to the Windows controller calibration utility. You can use it to ensure that all of your controller’s buttons are functioning correctly.
6. Et voila! Enjoy gaming with your PC-connected PS3 Controller!
Some addition configuration and button-mapping may be required to get it working with your game of choice
************************************************************************************************
[Ed. Note: The below instructions do not work for Windows 7 machines]
One industrious modder out there has created a simple program so you can use your PS3′s SIXAXIS controller on a PC like a game pad. Here’s what you’ll need to do:
1. Download this archive and install the filter driver (libusb-win32-filter-bin-0.1.10.1.exe).
2. Unpack ps3sixaxis_en.exe
3. Plug the SIXAXIS into your PC.
4. Run ps3sixaxis_en.exe once.
5. Push the PS button on the SIXAXIS once if it doesn’t see it straight away.
Unfortunately, the motion sensing features aren’t possible on the PC (not yet as least). But still, this is pretty easy way to net yourself a free usable game pad.

Nice job putting this out.
*Question – Wouldn’t this have been a selling point for Sony?
*Question2 – Can you connect your PS3 to your home network and transfer files (don’t own one)

The PS3 controller can plug into a PC? What is it, USB? I’ve never got to examine one, really.
by: Satanas
On August 28, 2007 at 8:53 am
Yeah, it has USB connectivity while charging on the PS3. The wire can be used to plug it into a PC as well of course.
Pretty cool. Useful for playing emulators with a game pad rather than keyboard with no analog.

does the computer need a wi-fi
by: da boss
On August 31, 2007 at 12:04 pm
@kingy,
No, as it uses USB to connect, not a WI-FI connection, anyway, the PS3 controller uses Blu-Ray technology to connect to the actual PS3, not WI-FI…

by: IceBerg
On September 6, 2007 at 3:26 pm
The controller does not use Blu-Ray. Since Blu-Ray is a media storage specification. It does however use bluetooth just like the wii. When connected via USB it enters charging mode and to expidite charging communication is transmited over USB and the wireless connection is turned off so less power is consumed and the unit charges faster.
I do not know of anyone getting the bluetooth side working yet but it should not be too hard.

hey im not following the instructions right, im downloading that file ur supposed to download when u click on the archive link, and i just get this program (11679_Sixaxis_PS3_Win32_Driver_For_PC.rar) but when i click on it, it doesnt do anything, im supposed to click on a program to use, and i dont know which one, then i saw that the first step said: Download “AND” install the filter driver (libusb-win32-filter-bin-0.1.10.1.exe)., so i looked up libusb-win32-filter-bin-0.1.10.1.exe and downloaded it, but that doesnt do anything either, i need more specific instructions, if anyone minds helpin me out a bit

ok i tried it again and when i open the file im supposed to download i automaticaly install the libusb-win32-filter-bin-0.1.10.1.exe, but when i install it and open up the 11679_Sixaxis_PS3_Win32_Driver_For_PC.rar it sais: “an old version of LibUSB-win32 is already installed on this system. please uninstall this verion first”. this is where im stuck, so can someone just tell me what it is im supposed to do, im gonna keep trying.

WHY o WHY are people using a PAD to play FPS on a PC when you can use a mouse an KB? How retarded can you be?
Personally I bought a PS3 pad simply to use it on my pc as theres no better pad. I dunno why sony don’t just fully support it for the PC too. Nothing beats a PS pad for Streetfighter. And the PS clones just don’t cut it.

If it doesnt work of the bat here is how i got it to work on mine. Install ibUSB-win32 after you install that put the rest in your C: drive trust me its easy that way than run your cmd prompt and run the ps3sixaxis_en.exe from the cmd prompt and than go to your controll panel it should work after that….

You people need to get a life. Blu-ray, or blu ray (sorry, that “dash” makes so much difference) or bluetooth. I think those of us knowledgeable enough to make the correction knew what this individual was trying to say. The problem is that so many of you are so insecure that you have to blast every little tipo instead of dealing with the main subject at hand…the connectivity of the PS3 controller to a PC.
(Before u get carried away, typo was misspelled INTENTIONALLY, to prove a point)

PS3 Controller for counter strike on PC. I downloaded the driver and configured the butttons in the CS menu and everything works a treat apart from vertical control on the right hand joystick (Zaxis). Even stranger that when you try to calibrate the controller in control panel it looks as if it is only set up for 3 axis not 4. Is this the case? Has anyone else had the same problem or tried it with any game and got the vertical control on the right joystick working?
by: Jacyn
On January 13, 2008 at 2:40 pm
I followed the instructions at the top word for word, ran the libusb-win32-filter-bin-0.1.10.1.exe first once it was done plugged my PS3 controller into my pc via USB and ran the ps3sixaxis_en.exe once. went to control panel/game controller pressed the PS button once and bam it worked like a charm. Not a single problem all 17 buttons work I have no freaking idea what #’s 18 and 19 are supposed to be though.

thanks in advance
by: hi
On February 7, 2008 at 9:58 pm
After installing go to control panel then to game controllers to check that its installed and is recognized. To costumize buttons, its up to the game your playing. If it supports game controllers then there will be a section in the game options menu to configuare if not then its not supported. Try seaching the games name with game contoller to see if theres a mod/hack for the game to do this.

My god, you people are all idiots (save like 5 of you). Or your all just 12 years old. Do you ever read what you write? It makes me ashamed of my species. Hey, I got an idea, how bout we make 40 comments about a guy saying blu-ray instead of bluetooth? Thats hilarious right? Good lord get a freaking life. If you can’t get this thing to work then just shut up and move on, your obviously not intelligent enough to use some common sense, and nobody here can help you with that. The commenting system was the worst idea mankind has ever made regarding the internet. It just seems to bring all the immature fools out.

Do you mean you tried this and it did not work?
Only the joysticks on the PS3 controller worked on the PC?
by: Control MK
On March 6, 2008 at 6:19 pm
For those of you who are having issues with assigning buttons, check out Control MK. It is a program that lets your controller mimic other things. That wasn’t a good explanation so I guess an example is in order:
You have an fps that uses the space bar to jump. Instead of messing with trying to reassign it to say the “X” button, you can just load up Control MK and have it act like the space bar is hit when you press the “X” button. So the fps thinks the space bar is being hit and you jump.
Now, if there is something I’m mistaken about a nice gentle correction would be nice…

For people wondering if this works on vista it does, and if it works on a laptop it does, ive jus done it myself, if you follow the directions above, then got to the control panel then Game Controllers, ensuring that the Playstation 3 controller is selected, click on properties, but moving the digital joysticks and by pressing the buttons, any and all of them will either light up a number or move the marker in the X/Y axis box or the 2 coloured bars located jus to the left of the box
hope this helps all in need
weither or not this will help any others having problems with wondering if its there computer or controller at fault, its another matter

So is there a way to get this to work wirelessly with a BLUETOOTH adapter? I have an old D-Link BLUETOOTH adapter i got from god knows where, or why for that matter. I’m looking for a bad arse gaming pad,I used to use a PS2 controller till my adapter bit the dust.
As ar the question way up top about using a pad for FPS, I used to play CS and Mechwarrior with a ps2 pad, and would dominate. Of course, the best mecha controller you cna get is a x52 joystick with flight rudders and some hacked up makeshift hardware… Anyway back to my point with a BLUETOOTH (notice the emphasis on bluetooth not blue-ray)

For all of you that want to use this in COD4 and other games the dont have a joypad setup place im going to say this once D/L the drivers from this site and idk youll get it to work AND THEN GET “Pinnacle Game Profiler” google the shit or something this prog will let you set everything up and it will even control the mouse for windowsXp idk bout vista…… if this dosent fix your problems there 2 more simple things you can do 1.) Go to a store buy a gun not to big but a good size and the price doesnt matter. 2.) Load and shoot yourself in the crouch area casue you dont need to have kids but your still good to do the shit work for all the smarter people lol…………………….later people *DISCLAIMER* DONT BUY THE GUN AND SHOOT YOURSELF. This could casue death or serious injury.

by: Control MK
On April 1, 2008 at 4:06 pm
Just you let everyone, Control MK allows you to configure your game controller to act as a mouse too
. And if the buttons aren’t lighting up in the gamepad properties (or whatever it is) when you hit buttons on the controller, then something isn’t working right and it won’t work in your game either. Just making this clear, in case anyone was wondering…

you can also do what I did. Go to Gamestop or any other gamer’s store and purchase a ps2 to ps3 converter for about 15 bucks. It lets you plug in a ps2 controller to the usb ports on your pc. This works for me in Windows xp without any extra drivers. alot of the games I used notice the controller right away. If it doesn’t, i simply reboot the program and viola!
p.s. I had to do this since I don’t own a ps3

for those of u having issues with this
after u have installed everything go to the control panel and then controls or game pads it should come up there and just press the buttons hopefully they light up and thats about it u dont need to calibrate if the lights light up
now if your using emulators u may need to change the control plugins and u need to configure your buttons on your control as well into the plugin
but it definitely works took me all day and i finally got it

For people who have correctly unpacked, ran the setup wizard THEN the .exe file, make sure you don’t have your Ps3 controller already plugged in.
)
IF you did what I did (I simply plugged it in and XP recognized it. Got me excited for a few minutes.) and left it plugged in, unplug it from your USB, plug it back in, THEN press the PS button in the middle. All the lights should stop blinking at that point. (I turned on my Ps3 when I did that too.
So to break it down.
1. Unpack
2. Run setup
3. Run .exe
4. Plug in (or unplug, then plug in.)
5. Press the PS button.

by: bob

it doesnt work, it just keeps flashing
by: Thorpey
On May 29, 2008 at 6:56 am
OneManOneArmy: No it won’t conflict. When the wire is plugged into the controller, it’s wireless capability is turned off, and all data is sent via the wire only (which would be plugged into your pc). So it won’t interfere at all with any nearby PS3

You need to download winrar to open the file. You can get it for free at download.com
I have vista and it took me a little while to get it to work. The instructions say to wait until you install the program before you plug-in the controller, but it finally worked after I plugged in the controller before I reinstalled the software. Don’t give up hope! It works on Vista.

sorry to moan but its not working for me either
i’ve followed the instructions but i think the problem is that i cant even
get the controller to turn on for some reason.

to stop it flashing i have to let it turn on the ps3
can any body help??

try googlin Xpadder and download using the one with the US Flag. After downloadin use the tabs and using the keyboard and controller use the keys to correspond with the controller. Im still having a bit of difficulty but im sure i’ll get it sooner or later welp i hope i helped in some way but the buck stops here sorry.
by: tiggaman
On June 8, 2008 at 8:57 am
jim158 reply to first question
go to control pannel and then game controller on your pc(might have to choose classic view to see the game controller folder). open the folder then go to properties. click on the settings tab. click on calibrate. and before you start hit the button in the center of your controller and then proceed with the instructions that they give you ie. push any button on the controller. follow the directions carefully so that you can calibrate your controller and that should get the ball rollin so to speak.

a couple of days ago I decided to try this with my Wireless Madcatz controller and surprisingly it worked!! I was so psyched y’know having a wireless gamepad and all but it does have one little flaw, the square , circle and cross buttons don’t show up .(all the rest work anyway, but it just doesn’t cut it) Does anyone know more about this and probably how to fix it ? It still shows up as PLAYSTATION (R) 3 controller but those 3 buttons just don’t work
by: Joe Balestrino

Okay, first and foremost; the lights will continue to blink endlessly.
second, It might help if you hit the ps3 button on the controller.
Once you install the drivers, place the .dll file in the Drivers dir. of your emulator. (if applicable.)
double click on the other .exe(ps3sixaxis_en.exe) file which has no Icon. It will load the sixaxis initiator for the ps3 controller.
install :libusb-win32-filter-bin-0.1.10.1.exe
—————————————————-
for button config. It depends on your emulator. or game using with controller.
i.e.; N64 emu has a built in config program.
if you navigate your program a little bit and do some troubleshooting it is not difficult at all.

Someone seriously thought that guy mixed up Blu-Ray technology with Bluetooth technology? I think since the two technologies are included with the PS3 and that they both involve the vocal “Blue”, that it is far more likely the guy just mistyped after jumbling the two words (something we all do from time to time) – and not the technologies themselves.
Correct the words, sure, but don’t jump to calling him an idiot with the rabid excitement of a 12 year old that just learned how to masturbate.
Anyway, this is a great step towards getting full functionality out of the controller, I can’t wait until someone finds out how to get it to work without the cord! Keep up the good work!

Hey guys. I’ve got the drivers & the controller working properly but it seems the drivers have been configured to use buttons 12-20 whereas Devil May Cry 4 (PC) only recognizes the first 10 or so buttons from a gamepad. I was wondering if anyone knows a way to alter this setting so the buttons are assigned 1-10 rather then the higher button numbers? Thanks in advance.

OKAY I FIGURED IT OUT. Okay. To get it working do this if you already tried to get it working.
1. Gather controller and chord.
2. Turn off / unplug PS3 THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT!!!!!!!!!!! Apparently if you controller recognizes a pre-connection to your PS3 it takes the mod and goes, WTF? Me confizzled.
3. Unpack everything.
4. Restart your computer.
5. double click on the libusb file to install it.
6. plug in your controller
7. Double click ps3 six access thingy .exe
8. Go to control panel -> game controllers and configure it.
9. Grab a six-pack, and some gum and enjoy the games.

install as usual..
plug in usb
go to control panel>game controllers
Run ps3sixaxis_en.exe once when you have the configure window up on the ps3 controller
when you press the PS button in the center you will see one button light up. they all will work after that.
Unfortunately I have to run the ps3sixaxix_en.exe in the configure screen everytime I had unplug the controller and plugged back in the computer.

Doesn’t work for me, I’m not computer illiterate either but this doesn’t work. I installed it, all went well, but when I start the application it brings up a dos box for half a second and that’s it. My system shows a Playstation controller being connected, but I can’t configure the buttons and when I move the “joysticks” the indicators don’t move….
I’m using XP X64 bit…. I’m guessing this isn’t compatible with 32 bit emulation? I’ve tried compatibility mode and running it as an administrator… owell, to bad for me!

no analog button support
———————–
for those of you asking why it does not work after you run the files make sure that you run the ps3sixaxis_en.exe file than press the PS button. it will work without a flaw if you didnt horribly screw up.
i have a problem where i have to run the exe file every time i plug it in. im assuming its cause i did not follow the instructions to the letter.
if there is anyone that is good at program coding you should really look into making a more simplified driver for this.

google ps3sixaxis_en.exe. if unable to be found. go to dozierjazz@yahoo.com. I have it.
archive and install the filter driver (libusb-win32-filter-bin-0.1.10.1.exe).
2. Unpack ps3sixaxis_en.exe
3. Plug the SIXAXIS into your PC.
4. Run ps3sixaxis_en.exe once.
for button config. It depends on your emulator. or game using with controller.
i.e.; N64 emu has a built in config program.
if you navigate your program a little bit and do some troubleshooting it is not difficult at all.
try pressing ps button whilst in the calibration menu until u get a response.
other problems ive noticed: calibration is important. it will tell u first and foremost what the hell your controller is doing.
the lights will flash because the controller recognizes the computer isnt a ps3, but that it is in a usb port, so its “charging”.
the controller will not interfere with your ps3 while plugged into your computer. reason being is while it is “wired” wireless capability is overridden.
i have found it works well with snes, gba,and sega emulators. but the analogs are very sensitive.
some programs will have conflicts with this. if u failed to read earlier messages, zune is one of them…
the ps3sixaxis_en does not crash. it runs for like 2 seconds. if u run it in command prompt, it will show u exactly what it did…
for whoever has no clue what the xbox/playstation equivalents are… triangle=Y square=X circle=B and x=A.
lastly, any questions, read the forum first, then go to dozierjazz@yahoo.com if u still have no clue.

Forget trying to get a PS3 controller to work with Vista 64. I just use a ps1 controller along with a PS controller to USB hub and it works fine out of the box without any drivers. Ps1 controllers are dirt cheap and have all the same buttons anyways. Cheap, easy, and every game recognizes it.

ive got xp 32bit installed as followed,i got psx 1.13 with crash bandicoot and crysis and gta iv,in the control panel when i press button the red number on the controler properties respond and the controller is calibrated so windows is fine with it,
in the psx emulator the start button is triangle and the l2 is the x i changed the settings to ps3 controller in the emulator but when i try to play it crash keeps moving forward and nothing else works
in gta iv in the options menu the key at teh bottom right that tells you what buttons are back, accept etc keep flickering between esc-back and b button-back

Just a warning to everyone using this method: the drivers you have to install can interfere with Zune mp3 players. After using this method, the Zune software can’t detect Zune devices that are connected. Uninstalling the drivers got everything working again, but obviously now I can’t use my PS3 controller on my PC.

It works, open the control panel on your pc. Click game controllers, select the ps3 controller on the list then click the properties button. Now run the usbdriver exe thingy and immediately press the ‘PS’ button. Then look over to the test window press a few buttons on your controller and you should see some lights light up. If it doesnt work repeat the process. If it still doesnt work make sure your PS3 is powered off with the off switch if it is near by, then reconnect the controller to the PS3 with the usb cable and repeat the steps.
This is the way I have gotten it to work for me pretty simple. I just had another question has anyone gotten the PS3 controller to work via Bluetooth? I have a Belkin Bluetooth USB Adapter and I do a scan for devices and have been unable to the detect the PS3 controller.

Well the point is that SONY would earn more cash. If they wrote a pad driver for the PCs it would find lots of clients as theres no such a pad like SIXAXISS/DS3 for PC. Not to mention great quality of PS pads.

I’ve did all of it, my controller works.
But there’s one problem.
The X, O, /\, and [] buttons are not working. The rest is working fine (R1, R2, R3, L1, L2, L3, START, SELECT, PATh and ARROWS)
So how could I fix it?
Thanks in advance,

because ppl like u are backwards. its the same for console users who say why would ppl want to use a KB for gaming? its the same thing. i am one who uses a joypad to play games because thats the way ive played first person shooters all my life. many pc players find it hard to believe it that i murder with a joypad in cod4 and 5 and will when i reserve mw2. im on the pc and i play EVERY game i own with a joypad, except rts games. if u dont believe a joypad will kill just as well, i am [PDE]Paul Kersey of the Perfect Dark Elite Clan. look me up.

Hey, this works great. BUT, here are some better instructions. IMPORTANT! YOU HAVE TO TURN OFF YOUR PS3! Otherwise, the controller connects to the PS3 via bluetooth and doesn’t work over the USB cable! Turn off the PS3 via the rocker switch on the back, where the cable plugs in. The controller can connect to a PS3 that is far away. Our’s was 3 rooms over, probably 40 feet away, and connected via bluetooth.
Also, buttons 1-4 are, in order, left joystick push-in, select, start, right joystick push-in. Use Control Panel, game controllers (or in Vista/7, Control Panel, Devices) to calibrate the sticks before use. You can then check all the buttons. Game Controllers shows 19 buttons, but I only got it to work for 16 or so, basically every single button on the controller.
Here are the instructions:
1. Extract the RAR file to a folder on your c:
2. Install the filter driver (libusb-win32-filter-bin-0.1.10.1.exe) (installs the USB driver into Program Files).
3. Plug the SIXAXIS into your PC. (in windows 7 (final version, not RC), the controller was found right away and I didn’t have to do any other steps, but tried the next one anyway).
4. Run ps3sixaxis_en.exe once. (dos box flashes on screen). You can also open a CMD prompt and change to the folder with the exe file and run the command. That way the box doesn’t go away and you can see the success/error message. It should say “controller found”.
5. Push the PS button on the SIXAXIS once if it doesn’t see it straight away. (I didn’t have to do this step).
Have fun! And thanks to the guy who put this together. awesome job.

You need to put the .dll file in the Libusb-win32 folder that you installed. It’s located in C:/Program Files/ if you installed it to the default folder.
Once you’ve done that, run the ps3.exe file. Now it should be recognised, go to calibrate your pad, press the PS button and it should work.

Abit off-topic since someone made a nice semi-fauly remark on Wii-motes:
Actually Wii-mote uses both IR-cams and bluetooth.
The Cams is used to position the cursor correctly on screen, alas thats what you have the “ir-bar” for.
Blue-tooth is used for the internal accellerator(spelling!) aka the tilt/rotation of the controller.

Wii uses bluetooth to get the motion sensors and buttons back to the Wii. The infrared is used for position relative to the screen. Put your hand over the sensor and use the cursor keys on the main menu if you dont believe me

The Wii remote uses infrared (IR) for motion tracking/pointing. It uses BlueTooth technology to communicate data to the Wii. Also, with the Wii MotionPlus, you get the use of a gyroscope, which is incomparably better than infrared tracking, but I digress.

Gamepads are slower than mouse and keyboard. Period. Counterstrike, try playing that with a pad against some CAL players. lol

Dude, you have to learn that people have different opinions and your opinion is not law. Some people like to play PC games, but would prefer to have a console gamepad. In my experience, PC games are cheaper, compared to any new console game. Some people like having money and don’t blow it all on stupid expensive bullshit when they can get it cheaper somewhere else.
Think about others and what they think. You may have your head too far up your own ass to realize, but there are other opinions out there besides yours and you should learn to accept them.

after install only sixaxisdriver.exe you can find on google
connect your ps3 controler and close your pc or laptop. (be careful not restart or reboot ,you must shut it down) when you open check your controler at control panel. also you must connetct your ps3 in the same usb port. if you connect it to other usb it wont work! No vibration No motion working.

wow, i have to say, i stopped reading well into these posts, i just have some veteran gamer pointers to throw out there, FPS games are usually much easier to play with a controller, until you come to UT3 on the PS3, then, using a Keyboard and Mouse is almost required to stay alive. I would play Armored Core:For Answer with a K/M combo if it were supported, also, i am big on PC games for the UT series, and all the CnC games, the UT series is great with the PS3 Mouse, the RTS will always be K/M. really annoyed with those console versions of CnC without a K/M setup. As for the dumb and dumber cast member? Blu-Ray? was that movie based off you? comments later on stated HD-DVD, that is a failed attempt by Microsoft to try at the 32GB storage capacity of the true HD Blu-Ray.
Games will always be scrutinized by the under-culture of gamers, even among game creators. Controller usability from the PS3 to the PC was part of a sales ploy, “If you want to use this fancy controller, buy a PS3!” But leaked out or created the software will be, for use on the PC.
I openly welcome the challenge of gaming, that last one i read, COD4MW with a max ping at 322, lol, the lowest 65 LMAO… bring it on, mine is a steady average of 10! Nothing but the best, DGL-4500, and 36Mbps HARDWIRE ALL THE WAY! look for me: Kamikazi2142 on the PSN.
by: Kamikazi2142
On January 2, 2010 at 7:25 pm
well, if you are on Win7 good luck getting anything to work
as for the controller itself, you should make sure it is NOT connected to the PS3 and off, then connect the usb to it and your pc, run the program, and press the PS button, that should do it.
by: Kamikazi2142
On January 2, 2010 at 7:28 pm
oh and also, anyone know of the controller emulator program? i forget what it was called, but it would load up profiles for different games you have installed, i had all this once before, and then had to reboot my computer, would like to know thank you.
Since Doom3 has no controller interface, and things are sketchy with CnC:Renegade.

except the money they save on games they have to spend on the machine to play the god forsaken things. I paid $543 for my PS3 and it’ll play every game for years to come, but your pc needs to have that much invested yearly just to keep up. So while you may save money, it’s only so you have the computing power to keep up with us console users.

like does the ps3 still read it? or does the program change the programming inside the controller? I JUST bought a ps3 for christmas and i really dont wanna lose my controller. the damn things are expensive.

I have the same problem as Tamer.
I tried to edit the buttonDataSetup.txt by adding button 16 and when you look later at the settings of FIFA11, the square button is indeed set.
But since then my FIFA.exe keeps crashing when the opening menu appears.
Can anybody help me?

I recently found a way for PC users to easily use their PS3 controllers onto their PC. Unfortunately, the driver isn’t signed so you need to disable driver signature enforcement.
Another thing is that this supposed to work for 64 bit users. I have Windows 7, 64 bit. So this should work fine with other Win7 64 bit users as well.

Okay, so I followed these instructions yet when I plug SIXAXIS into PC and run ps3sixaxis_en once (as per instructions) it still won’t “connect” when I press the PS button. Anyone else got this problem and was able to fix it? Been using a fightpad to play emulator games until I found this and I’d really like to get this to work as using a fightpad is pretty annoying and I prefer analog stick.
Any help would be appreciated.

Use MotionJoy / DS3 Tool — Works great for the PS3 controller – Full Analog/Rumble capabilities, etc.
http://www.motioninjoy.com/download
Make sure the controller is plugged in before you launch the program.
Once in the program, select: Analog Gamepad 2, click Enable.
Any PC Games or Emulators detect the controller as MotionJoy
Enjoy

Its a great job, many thanks as i was waiting for this for so long.
It works perfectly. I use vista ultimate. Just fallow the instruction, install the thing, then plug controller on pc, execute that other program, as the instruction says, but note this, its kind hard to recognize the controller properly , so u must repeat over and over from step 2 to the end step, note all 4 led blink all together.(but not always it means its working).
All games that i have tested, recognize the controller. like Lunia, Blade kitten , lara croft , and so on.
congratulation and thank you again for the effort , your in the right path. Would be more then perfect if get this working with a bluetooth on pc^^

by: oujisan
On December 31, 2010 at 1:02 am
Some of you people are really …lets just say please move away from the computer mkwaay…
First off the instructions here is simple enough to read its all there. and it works dam well. you do however remember to keep opening the application in order for it to work each time you plug your Controller in.
Personal note this is a Cheap method for PS3 users who own a PC to use their controller.. it is neat.
If you got a PC then just buy a cheap look a like controller (Rumble Pad 2 comes to mind) or get a Wireless Xbox 360 controller for it as to me it is a better controller IMO.
I do suggest getting a USB Extension cable cause i know mine is like 15 cm or something (the charger cable).
and This has nothing to do with Bluray @Da Boss… your sentence made no sense at all if you don’t know what you talking about don’t say anything mkwaay
by: oujisan
On December 31, 2010 at 1:11 am
Also this depends on the game.. if the game doesn’t support Gamepad then get a mod if someone made one.
Check your controller settings.. its not science. Just note not all games utilize these things.. besides keyboard and mouse is best thing ever with FPS and RTS…why use a controller?

Alright guys. I can see my PS3 controller in my game controllers menu from the control panel, but when I run the “calibrate” test, nothing on the ps3 controller works. I’ve also tried it out in street fighter 4 from Steam and it won’t respond there either. The four lights on the top of the controller are still flashing (and yes, I have it plugged in). Do I need to wait for it to stop flashing? I thought that since it’s plugged in, it does not matter if the batteries are fully charged up. Any suggestions?

People, Note : If you have a 64bit version of Windows Vista or Windows 7, you will need to disable driver signing, if not LibWinUSB32 will not notice your PS3 Controller (Which could be why PS3Sixaxis_en is crashing). To do that
-Restart your computer
-Before you see the “Starting Windows” (I forgot what it says on Windows Vista), Press F8 as rapidly as you can until a menu comes up
-Scroll down with your keyboard and select “Disable Driver Signature Requirement” or something.
by: Eric
On May 2, 2011 at 8:02 pm
Hey flat out this don’t work or atleast not with vista. I’ve done everything restarted, disabled driver enforcement, put the dll in the directory of my emulator, installed and ran both .exe. I installed everything as admin, still nothing. I’m going to try on windows 7 now and see if it works. Otherwise don’t waste your time unless you got xp or a mac and want to try.

this worked perfectly fine for me until a few days ago when suddenly my pc stopped to recognize the controller.
i guess some windows update did something to the usb-ports. when i plug the controller in it says “usb device unknown” (in german, but more or less) instead of recognizing it as a ps3 controller (which it always had done before)
anyone knows how to solve that?

Thanks in advance, John!

I downloaded the file, Extracted it, Installed it, Plugged in my PS3 controller Clicked the ps3sixaxis_en file, box opened and closed, Clicked my ps3 PS3 symbol button, went to control pannel and tried calibrating it, and what do you know… it doesnt work.

It’s amazing at how retarded some people are. The PS3 uses BluRay (ALSO known as BlueTooth) to connect to the PS3. BluRay is a transfer technology that uses a different way to transmit data (either through cables OR wireless). The reason that it can be applied to TV’s is that the new way has much less data loss than the older way it was transferred. Through this method, data is exchanged faster and better, allowing for both the TV picture to come out crystal clear as well as the PS3 controller to transmit it’s commands faster.

PS3 fan boys strike again.
(god damn people have just got a ps3 and there wanting to use the pad for a p.c why?? the ps3 is well better why would you waste your time with a p.c )
think you might find that most pc’s built after 2010 will have better hardware than the ps3.
GTA IV runs like shit on ps3 ( as do some other games ) lag lag lag..not true for ( most ) PC’s.
the only thing on ps3 upgradable is the HDD. ( not true for pc )
I have had ps1 ‘ 2 & 3 some of the best consoles i have owned.
and using a ps3 pad for pc gaming I think is a good idea as its better than most crap joypads out there.

to all people having problems with getting it to work even after following instructions step by step… all it takes is following the directions to the letter, install the driver, plug in controller, run the .exe and yes the .exe closes out immediately but thats ok. if your controller still doesnt respond go into control panel, find your input device/keyboard menu and find the controller section, then follow some links and you’ll come to a controller test sort of thing, press random buttons and wiggle control sticks and see if it is giving output. if it is your controller is working and there is something wrong with your game and if its not then i dont know what is wrong.

On August 15, 2011 at 12:22 pm
All the program does is install a library to your computer so that the input device can be understood. The controller communicates in “PS3″-speak, the PC doesn’t recognize it so the filter adds in a translation piece.
The file flashes open and closes because all it’s really doing is just updating some system files. If it’s not working, you probably don’t have permission or some other internal security setting is preventing it from writing. Use the command prompt and run it from the cmd and you should be able to better monitor it.
If buttons aren’t working, check the configuration in control panel, you’ll probably need to reconfigure the settings from the default.

by: Funny that guy thought you connected the controller via blue ray
On January 4, 2012 at 9:51 am
Use a word processor before you post on a forum. The reason why I say this is because lots of people are using punctuation in the wrong places, its really hard to follow some of it.
by: Tim
On January 4, 2012 at 10:01 am
@cheeba69 I agree with the people above, if your going to use punctuation make sure you use it in the right place especially if your calling other people retarded at the same time as making mistakes like that. Also why buy another controller when you already have one and all it takes is downloading emulators, programmes or applications; This doesn’t make people a “noob” or “cheap” its just another alternative to wasting money when it could be spent on “IMPROVING YOUR GRAMMAR & PUNCTUATION” (hint).

Right, There are a few thing that you can do if you are having problem.
Plug you controller (with the USB) into your computer, DO NOT PRESS ANY BUTTON ON YOUR CONTROLLER.(If you Ps3 controller is flashing, its ok
. That means that its charging)
Download program. OPEN WITH WINRAR (Download if you dont have)
WinRar will open the file. Double click on it.
It will run and install.
Go to Device Manger, and click Load Driver.
Some stuff might happen, just accept it all/let it run.
Follow step no.5
After that, under Select One GameMode you should have Playstation 3===>OPTIONS clicked.
CLICK ON =====>OPTIONS ( this will bring you to a new window where you can map your controller settings. Change any settings you want and Click SAVE CHANGES below the list.
Go back to Profiles and click ENABLE(In Pink) Then Vibrition Testing (controller should Vibrite)
Then click Game controller Panel->Properites(Press buttons to see them mapped)->Settings(Top Left)->Calibrate(follow instructions)
After that you should be good to go
It will say ====>Options
