Huh? EA Sorta Dates Battlefield 4 Open Beta
EA COO Peter Moore evidently didn’t let the rest of his company know he was going to break this one, but here it is: the open beta for Battlefield 4 begins on October 1 for PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3. You won’t find the the long awaited announcement on the official Battlefield 4 site, the regularly updated Battlefield Blog, or even the dedicated Battlefield 4 Beta Dates page (which still simply states “early October”). Instead, Moore casually mentioned the beta launch in an post Friday on the EA Blog, The Beat, and inadvertently created another question: if the Battlefield 4 open beta starts October 1, when does the exclusive beta start?
Here’s the deal: EA and DICE have been telling us for months that if you pre-order the Battlefield 4 Digital Deluxe Edition, are a Battlefield 3 Premium member, or if you pre-ordered Medal of Honor Warfighter, you’ll gain access to the “exclusive” Battlefield 4 beta. This is not the same as the open beta, and though it was never clearly detailed, it’s believed the exclusive beta would begin one to two weeks prior to the open beta. Further muddying the waters, EA stated that the exclusive beta would begin in “early October,” which, before Moore’s post, was all we knew about the open beta release date as well.
The questions now are, is Moore’s Battlefield 4 open beta release date accurate? If so, when does the exclusive beta begin?
I’ve pinged EA with both of those questions and will update this post as soon as I receive a response.
