Hunted’s Developers Talk; Showcase Level Editor (Video)

A new video has been released for the upcoming action game, Hunted: The Demon’s Forge, featuring developer commentary.

Watch it here:

The Unreal engine is put to good use creating the game’s diverse environments, and it looks like the team managed to capture that darker, grittier medieval feel they were aiming for.

That “heavy element of vertically” they included in levels, or Z-axis gameplay, is such a critical aspect of level design and can make all the difference between a bland, Wolfenstein 3D-esque level and something that is interesting to fight across.

The Crucible map creator sounds like a nice feature, given it can be used on consoles, but its simplicity may also be a weakness — I question how much depth a level made in this map maker can have.

A couple gems of quotes:

We try to tell the story with the environment.

It’s about giving the world this richness and this life that is larger than the span of the game story that we’re telling.

Hunted is slated for release on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC in North America on May 31, 2011 and across Europe on June 3, 2011. For more information on Hunted visit the official site.
