Hurry Up and Wait for Witcher 2 on Xbox 360 — Not Till Q1 2012

So you know how the news slipped out ahead of its official release that The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings was getting ported to Xbox 360 after its PC release earlier this year? That remains true, but the timeline is a little…stretched.

Seems CD Projekt RED isn’t in any hurry to release Witcher 2 on Xbox — possibly because they’re pissed at us (by us I mean you, you goddamn Internet detectives) for leaking the information about the Xbox version in the first place. The official party line is that they’re working to make the game non-sucky on Microsoft’s console.

A more accurate story, as our friends at Gameranx point out, is probably that CD Projekt is crossing legal swords with Namco Bandai over publishing the game. That’ll delay things anyway, so all the better to “optimize” (read: make crappier visually) the game for play on the Xbox.

From Gameranx’s story:

CD Projekt boss Adam Kicinski had this to say: ‘The extra time will allow us to polish the title to perfection, so that the game offers an ideally balanced, fantastic experience to gamers. As the launch of the game approaches, we will be sharing more details how it will be released on Xbox 360. I trust that despite the release date shift, players will be satisfied with what we are planning for them.’

Meanwhile, PC owners can continue to play and enjoy the game while laughing at their Xbox 360-owning counterparts.
