id Software: “We’re Not Doing a Crappy Version of RAGE on the Wii”
The headline is the basically the whole story, but here’s a little more.
Activision recently announced that there would be a crappy version of Modern Warfare 3 on the Wii (developed by Treyarch). I’m not one to begrudge a Wii-owner his enjoyment of the next Call of Duty game, but it seems like kind of a torturous thing to do to the Wii. Like dragging your out-of-shape buddy on a marathon run.
Anyway, id Software is having absolutely none of this sh#$. When asked about the possibility of seeing RAGE on the Wii, id Software’s President Todd Hollenshead had this to say. It’s almost like he had it saved up for a while. Enjoy it:
For Rage, as much as Nintendo might not like to hear this, id Tech 5 is too much tech for the Wii. We’re not doing a crappy version of Rage on the Wii. If you play the PC, the PS3, the 360 version, you get all of it. All the media’s the same. We didn’t make the crippled version that somebody wishes they had some other platform to play on.
Phew! That one had some heat on it, and you almost get the sense that last part could be directed at Modern Warfare 3.
I think I agree with Hollenshead here, though. Look, graphics are important for a game like RAGE, which seeks to immerse you in a believable post-apocalyptic world. Why create an inferior version of that world?
IGN has the whole story. There are a couple of other quotes by Hollenshead, where he talks about maybe seeing id Software games on the Wii-U, as long as John Carmack thinks it’s a good idea.
