If a Million People Download the Dragon Age II Demo, Everybody Gets Free In-Game Stuff

BioWare has come up with a pretty brilliant promotion for Dragon Age II: they’re going to keep track of total downloads for the game’s demo (across all platforms), and if they get a million, they’ll unleash some free extra items in the full game. The items are books; when selected they’ll give you extra money and XP.

The demo hits PC, PSN and Xbox Live on Tuesday the 22nd, and the million-download mark needs to be hit by March 1 for the bonuses to go into effect. BioWare will be tracking the download tally here.

This is interesting because — considering that demos are ads for games — it’s essentially a promotion to get you to look at advertising. It’s also viral; folks who have already pre-ordered the game will encourage their friends to download the demo, creating a push that might not be there otherwise. Smooth, BioWare.
