I’ll Take It! GOG.com Giving Away Stargunner

I’m digging how GOG.com is celebrating its fifth birthday this month and giving me gifts. Today’s surprise: mid-1990s sci-fi shoot ‘em up Stargunner is now free to download. Hold on a sec, my skeptical, penny pinching side wants to take a closer look… nope, no strings attached. Thanks GOG.com!

Apogee Software aka 3D Realms is best known for old school FPS’s like Duke Nukem and Rise of the Triad, but the studio also made a pretty damn good side scrolling sci-fi shooter with 1996′s Stargunner. Not sure how it’s held up, but the freckled-faced version of Mike Sharkey had fun with it back in the day. You can find out for yourself, free of charge, if it’s still any good courtesy of GOG.com.

The DRM-free gaming platform made its announcement via the GOG.com Twitter this afternoon. Head on over to the site to get your free copy of Stargunner. No word yet on how long the promo will run.

Stargunner was released as freeware eight years ago. This is not anything new.
