In Black Ops 2, Killstreaks Are Replaced By “Score Streaks”

Big semantic changes are coming to the Call of dutyverse, as it’s been revealed at GamesCom this week that Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 won’t have the familiar killstreaks in multiplayer. That’s because they’re being replaced with what they’re calling “score streaks”.

As reported by VG 24/7, kills will still add to streaks. However, streaks are now created by accumulation of accomplished goals; objectives like securing objectives, capturing flags, and defending team mates will build a stream even faster. As with the previous killstreak system, score streaks will unlock bonuses, including the ability to call in airstrikes and other, familiar feeling options.

No word on why they changed the name. It is possible that they wanted to go with something a little less sociopathic. It’s also possible that they also wanted a system that encouraged more strategic play instead of killing and more killing and based on this description, they may have done it. Once again, Black Ops 2 is looking more and more intriguing.
