Indie Horror Darkwood Trailer Shows Fighting and Fleeing

Top-down horror title Darkwood is coming to Steam Early Access this week, and developer Acid Wizard Studio has released a lengthy new trailer to give potential players an idea of what they’ll face as they explore its strange, deadly forest.

The trailer sends players to a ghostly church, where Darkwood’s light-based vision mechanic — the one that hides anything your character can’t physically see — creates some pretty intense “run the hell away from the scary-sounding thing” situations. The trailer also lets players make a pretty key choice toward its end: fight a hideous grotesque monster, or flee from it.

Both options show a bit of what you can expect from Darkwood, with a little combat, dialogue, inventory management and more along the way, and gives a sense of how the situation can go bad in a hurry as players explore the desperate, creepy world.

Darkwood hits Steam Early Access on July 24 and will cost players $14.99. Check out our interview with Acid Wizard Studio for more about Darkwood.
