Infinity Ward Chimes in on Upcoming Call of Duty 4 Map Pack Console and PC Releases

cod4creek1.jpg

Infinity Ward has revealed a few new details about the upcoming Variety Map Pack for Call of Duty 4. The map pack has just been sent off to Microsoft for certification, and should be released on Xbox Live on April 3rd or 4th. PS3 owners should be getting the DLC about 3 weeks later, and as for PC users, well:

Right now plans for the PC version are unannounced but we are working to bring PC users the same content in the future, however logistics are being worked out on how to make that happen.

Oh yay, once again us PC gamers are being left out in the cold for much longer than everyone else. Let’s just hope that “logisitics” doesn’t translate to “paying for stuff that other people have had for over a month.”

Paying for maps is a joke, PC games usualy let users make maps, mod games, and the like, not to be a fanboy or anything but PC really is the best platform for creativity and progress, and consoles are just computers after all.

“PC really is the best platform for creativity”

Amen to that, the other day I decided to play some custom map servers for the first time since late December. I was absolutely FLOORED by the quality of some of these maps

I am sure as hell not going to pay for maps on the PC. The Chinatown map for example is just a reskinned version of the Carentan map. Guess what, the mod Awe4 lets you play Carentan for free

“Logistics” is a code-word for “we’re working out how to charge PC users as well”. Nickel-and-diming gamers = fail.

Remember that Activision still has to pay their staff for creating content regardless of whether or not the game is out, while I do feel that say 800MS points is a bit steep, 400 points is plenty for about 3 or 4 maps, While that Awe4 mod may contain Carentan, it’s not official and have minor issues the official one won’t.

Lack of an edit button makes me a sadpanda, I meant to say that the Awe4 map WOULD have issues the official one won’t.

Remember here awhile back they said that a great portion of the people playing the PC Version of CoD4 where pirated copies? I for one think they might be blowing it out of portion so they can say “Why the hell should we even make maps for all those PC pirates out there”.

More importantly perhaps IW and Activision should recal who made this franchise what it is today. CoD, CoDUO and and COD2 were all huge for the PC. Plus if they think CoD4 itself was pirated to death what makes them think trying to charge for a map pack (which publishers like Valve tend to toss out for free) isn’t going to instill a bucaneer attitude from PC gamers. I don’t think they will charge for it, but they will certainly and sadly make PC gamers wait for it as there is no easy microtransaction solution for them.

Thats funny because I got the same message from that statement too. From seeing this one little screenshot though, the map is already giving me chillbumps.

Map packs should be mostly free or even a small 400 ms points wont kill anyone. My only concern is when new maps are out the usualy divide the masses of gamers. Some have the maps, Some dont. It causes problems. However this is COD 4 and a great game so i will get the maps for a fee if i have to.

Overall IW and Activision surely have made their money on this game, so free would be nice, but i bet it will be the usual points until the intrest has died down then it becomes free.

custom maps are already out and have been out for months. Enable MODS in your filters and watch the beauty of todays map makers. Way better than any maps the bozo’s try to charge you for. Besides they release a map pack of like 3-4 maps anyway. whatever happened to the RVS days when there were 30 maps in 1 mappack?

get real….., you can screw the console community but no the PC community…we’re sharp remember…thats why we game on the PC and not the CONSOLE….holla!

I think they should add a level editor to the game so that we as gamers should be able to make are own maps just like halo 3. Tell me im right
