Initial Yakuza 3 sales in the West were "Really Positive"
Sega was so hesitant about releasing Yakuza 3 in the Western world just days before Yakuza 4 was released in Japan because of how badly Yakuza 2 performed. Because of that, fans of the franchise on this side of the world waited anxiously to hear how Yakuza 3 sold. A specific answer has not yet been given, but earlier this month, a Sega rep posted the following on the Sega forums in response to a question about sales numbers:
“As was mentioned a couple times above, SEGA doesn’t generally release any specific numbers in terms of game sales. (Even in Valkyria’s case, after a huge surge, we listed percentages.) So, while I’m not able to give you any numbers, I can at least still confirm that the initial sales were really positive, and that all of the fans who jumped in to support the franchise in the west did a great job.”
Encouraging news, gamers and weeaboos! While there may not really be any reason to think that statement implies anything about a Western release of Yakuza 4 or the PSP Yakuza game, it does give you a reason to maintain hope, I suppose. We’ll keep our fingers crossed.
