Insomniac Enters Facebook Gaming With Outernauts
“Tame the Galaxy! Capture and train exotic alien beasts for battle as you explore vast new worlds. Discover mysterious planets, harvest loot, and fight alongside or against friends to master a wild, untamed universe.” Sounds exciting, right? That’s the pitch for Insomniac’s next game, which, sadly, has nothing to do at all with the Ratchet and Clank series. It’s called Outernauts, and mystifyingly for a company that has typically worked very closely with Sony, it’s going to be a Facebook game.
It’s being released as part of a deal with EA Partners, and in addition to the Facebook game angle, it’s going to be an RPG. Kind of. “With Outernauts,” said Insomniac CEO Ted Price, “we are delivering a deep story with real RPG strategy, coupled with Insomniac’s signature sense of humour.” I hate Facebook games, but I am pretty much a loyal for life to Insomniac, even if they did make me tear up a little bit at the end of Ratchet and Clank: A Crack In Time. Jerks. Outernauts launches later this summer; it’s currently in beta testing. Until then, they’ve released this teaser:
That’s all well and good, but when is the next proper Ratchet and Clank?
