Insomniac Going Multiplatform With New IP

Ted Price, president and CEO of Ratchet and Clank and Resistance-creator Insomniac Games, announced today that the company is working on a new IP in addition to the Resistance and Ratchet series, and he says this new IP is going to be released on the PS3 and the Xbox 360 and will be published by EA Partners. See the video below.

More after the jump.

This marks the first time ever that Insomniac will make a game for a non-Playstation console. That history has led some folks to believe that Sony owns Insomniac; those people are wrong. Insomniac has always been independent, and now they are taking advantage of that independence in order to bring some of their work to more players.

You might think the timing of this announcement would indicate that Insomniac will reveal the new IP at E3, and somebody asked the company about that on Twitter. But Insomniac responded with “not at E3,” so I suppose we’ll have to wait.

Now, my note to fanboys: This news does not negatively affect anyone in any way. Insomniac wants to make a game that folks who only own 360s can play in addition to the folks who own PS3s. This is not Insomniac betraying the Playstation or fans of the Playstation. They are still going to produce Playstation-exclusive Resistance and Ratchet titles. If you cry about this or want to boycott Insomniac from here on out, you are a bad person. That is all.

If this means they get to keep making Rachet and Clank games, I’m happy.
