Interview with Tamriel Rebuilt Modder
Bethesda has a new Mod Interview up with Elder Scrolls modder Gaël Zimmermann or Gez as he’s known online. He’s been modding the Elder Scroll series since Daggerfall and is currently the Head of Concept Art for the mod project Tamriel Rebuilt.
In Morrowind, the Tamriel Rebuilt team focused on expanding the rest of the Morrowind province. For Elder Scrolls IV, Oblivion, the team is creating Hammerfell, the home of the Redguards. Gez is looking forward to seeing TES5 and plans to continue with the Tamriel Rebuilt project.
Gez does the occasional solo project, and has translated several mods into his native French. He prefers to work with games that have open source code and wishes Bethesda would open-source the Morrowind and Oblivion engines.
I know it’s a pipe dream because there is too much licensed middleware to leave the matter in Bethesda’s hands, but if the Morrowind or Oblivion engine were open-sourced, the community would be able to do wonderful things with them. While already really impressive, MGE or OBSE are nothing in comparison to what could be done…
