League of Legends: Introducing Vi, the Piltover Enforcer

Vi is slated to be the next champion released by Riot Games for League of Legends. As a child, she started off on the wrong side of the law before having a change of heart. She now works alongside Caitlyn. She is a strong champion duelist capable of being in the top lane but is able to go through a match in the jungle as well.

We’ll go over her abilities in further detail below, but let’s break it down with a quick primer. Her Vault Breaker (Q) is a chargeable ability which slows down your movement speed but increases your damage and dash range. Use it to escape from the opposition or to ambush and secure a kill. Her Denting Blows (W) is a passive ability allowing you to punish enemy champions who decide to stay in against you. Her Assault and Battery (R) effectively lets you chase and shut down a champion before finishing them off with your Excessive Blows (E). Vi should be released sometime before Christmas. The last major tournament was a few weeks ago held by the IGN Pro League but I have a sneaking suspicion that Vi is going to be a major force in the competitive scene (at least, until a nerf kicks in).

Just to clarify, her name is actually pronounced “vie” (as in, vying for control). Here’s a video of her in action.

Blast Shield (Passive) – Vi charges a shield over time. The shield can be activated by hitting an enemy with an ability.
Vault Breaker (Q) – Cost: 50/60/70/80/90 mana – Charges a powerful punch that carries you forward. First cast: Slows your movement speed by 15% while increasing damage and dash range over 1.5 seconds. Second cast: Dashes forward dealing 50/80/110/140/170 (+) to 100/160/220/280/340 (+0.7) physical damage and applying Denting Blows to all enemies hit (deals 75% damage to minions and monsters). Stops upon colliding with an enemy champion, knocking it back. Cooldown: 19/16/13/10/7
Denting Blows (W) – No cost - Every 3rd attack on the same target deals an additional 6/7/8/9/10% (+ 0.05%) of the target’s maximum health as physical damage, reduces its armor by 25% and grants you 30/35/40/45/50% attack speed for 4 seconds (max 300 damage vs. minions and monsters).
Excessive Force (E) – Cost: 60 mana – Causes next basic attack to deal 5/20/35/50/65 (+.7*AD) (+0.7*AP) physical damage to the target and enemies behind it. Vi charges a new punch every seconds and can hold 2 charges at once. Cooldown: 1
Assault and Battery (R) – Targets an enemy champion and chases it down, knocking it up and suppressing it for 1.25 seconds. Deals 200/375/550 (+) physical damage and applies Denting Blows. While charging you are immune to crowd control and will knock aside enemies in the way, dealing 75% damage to them.

Bonus hidden passive

If you play against a Jayce, you might notice that Vi has a slightly different attitude. Watch the video below.
