IO’s May 10 Announcement Might Be Hitman: Sniper Challenge
Yesterday, IO interactive posted a graphic (the one at the top of this page) on their Facebook page, accompanied by the comment “Heads up! A MAJOR announcement is coming up on MAY 10th. Don’t miss this!”. Whatever could this mean? We immediately assumed ‘multiplayer’, since that seems to be the thing everyone announces in the month leading up to E3, but also, there’s not really much else they could be announcing worth this kind of hype, unless it’s the creation of a new MMORPG set in the Hitman universe’s second era.
We may now have the answer, and it’s not as exciting as the May 10 ZOMG!!!111! tease suggested. The latest Game Informer has an ad for something called Hitman: Sniper Challenge, a spin off of Hitman: Absolution available to people who pre-order that game through GameStop. Likely to be a DLC pack avaialble at launch, Hitman: Sniper Challenge includes a replayable sniper mission, an exclusive upgradable rifle, and ‘awesome prize packages for top snipers’. Here’s that ad:
Of course, here’s the thing: The new Game Informer shipped last week – I received my copy over the weekend. It seems silly to think that IO Interactive would be teasing a MAJOR REVEAL of something already spoiled by an ad-buy. Perhaps the reveal is the prizes they’ll be giving way, but I still think something bigger is on the way. We’ll find out May 10, I suppose. Unless this is indeed the reveal, and IO decides to announce early.
