iPhone Developer Firemint Buys Infinite Interactive

The company that made Flight Control, among the most popular and highest-grossing games on Apple’s iOS platform, just bought the company that makes the Puzzle Quest games.

Both Australia-based game makers will be consolidated into a single location at Firemint, and all games going forward will be released under the Firemint name. Infinite Interactive’s founder Steve Fawkner, the designer behind the Puzzle Quest franchise that’s appeared on the Nintendo DS and Xbox Live Arcade (and our Best Handheld Games of 2010 list), will become a product manager at the combined company.

Firemint didn’t say how much it paid for Infinite Interactive, but Firemint Founder Ron Murray did say he and Fawkner had been talking about working together for some time. Murray is even quoted by Examiner.com as saying that Fawkner and Puzzle Quest are the reasons he got into making games in the first place — so it sounds like Infinite Interactive and Firemint are ready to play well together.

They’re also reportedly working on a new game already, but there aren’t any details about that just yet, either. With Infinite Interactive mixed in, though, it’s very possible we could be seeing some expansion in platform from Firemint, especially since it’s recently added Flight Control to Mac andPC.
