Is A New Free-to-Play Battlefield on the Way?

Free-to-play games have been in the news a lot lately. Browser-based games have as well, with games like Battlefield Heroes and Quake Live leading the way.

It looks like DICE, the studio responsible for the Battlefield series, is gearing up for another free-to-play title. They’ve recently purchased the following domains:

  • BattlefieldAssault.com
  • Battlefieldp4f.com
  •
BattlefieldPlay4free.com
  • Bfassault.com
  • Bfp4f.com
  • Bfplay4free.com

Battlefield Heroes released in 2009 to mixed reviews, garnering a 69 on Metacritic.

No word yet on whether these registrations are for a browser-based, downloadable, or retail title. As soon as we have more news on what these represent, we’ll get it right to you.
