Is Bioshock in Stores Right Now?

bioshockcover1.jpg

If you’ve been anticipating Bioshock like many Xbox and PC owners, then you probably know that the game is set to be released next week on August 21 and that there’s a demo available through Xbox Live right now. Or is the game out in stores right now?

Apparently a rumor wave began to build up last night as various bits of information began to show that Bioshock had already become available from certain retailers. It started with an image posted on the NeoGaf forums showing a copy of the game along with a receipt from Toys R’ Us dated from that day. Then people began to notice that TV ads for the game began to carry the words “Available Now” at the end instead of the release date. And finally, some unofficial sources began to claim that a 2K Games rep had confirmed it. So far though, there has been no official explanation from the developer or the publisher that clears any of this up.

So what does this mean? Well the internet consensus seems to be that Toys R’ Us stores (as well as a few EB Games and GameStops) have begun selling the game a week early. I suppose its possible that someone working for these chains just plain goofed and got the release date wrong. Bottom line: if you’re hankering for some Bioshock action, you should probably get down to the nearest Toys R’ Us right now and check it out.

Oh wah, so some people got the game early. Not going to make it any less of a good game. Oh, and as far as bad launches, let’s just be grateful that the release date wasn’t pushed back 2-3 times and many months like many titles are (*cough* Half-Life 2).
