Is Deus Ex: Human Revolution Racist?

OK, so I had heard that a character or two in Deus Ex: Human Revolution might be racial caricatures, but I didn’t encounter them in the game. Thankfully, somebody has posted a video of one of said caricatures, and it’s more outrageous than I could have anticipated. I’m referring to, of course, Letitia the informant. Just watch this amazing piece of work.

Holy. Effing. S–t.

Racist or racism are words thrown around too freely by blacks.

But hey, this is the world of Deux Ex. Perhaps blacks like Letitia can use her world’s augmentation process to remove some of her less desirable traits, such as the wide nose, velcro hair, and her urges to have multiple kids with different fathers as well as the urges to milk to government for everything she can get via welfare and EBT/WIC.

Its not really racist. It Letitia was a Hispanic then she would have talked like a stereotypical hispanic or any other race. We all know the stereotypical black Letitia caricature here. Its not derogatory, its just the art direction. You see this in movies and tv shows all the time. Doesn’t mean those are racist. Now if Eidos makes a sequel and all we see are depiction of that caricature then yeah I would start to ask questions but right now as it is, my racist alarm isn’t ringing.

Why do people have to come one this article actually BEING racist. i mean come one SupremeAllah just went way too far, and so did “Aids” come on wtf i thought we have been past this point of cultural diversity, where people just outright attack others.

Always throwing around the racist accusation without actually knowing the definition of the word.

Ah, the world of the internet. Hell, what am I saying, that happens in the real world, too.

I could see this as offensive if that’s how the entire race of black people were portrayed in the game but it’s not, it’s just one character with that personality. So some lady who digs through the trash talks a bit over the line stereotype, big deal. It’s not continued to be implied through the rest of the game that all black people are like that, only once. People need to stop even factoring in what race someone is and just accept we’re all fellow people with different personalities, some good and some bad. Whether it be in a video game or real life. I understand I can’t force someone else opinion to change but really we need to stop jumping the gun on calling things racist any chance we get.

LOL, if you payed attention to any black media this character is a repeat, A REPEAT character. Stereotypical? Hell yeah, thats the point, the character stereotypes well, and then acts as a knowledgable underground informant? LOL, in the future of a dystopian city? LOL!

Racist? Yeah, as racist as the stereotype allows, but thats the POINT.

Anti-Racist.

I’d love to be able to have a built-in excuse for everything I don’t like. Self-loathing white people like Phil have made it so easy for people of other ethnic origins to scream ‘racist’ even when there’s clearly no racism present and be immediately acquiesced out of fear. Phil and his like consider themselves progressives but have done more to set social standards back and segregate everybody. Even the people he claims to be sticking up for are for the most part getting tired of it now, but two and a half years on he’s still doing it.

But you know what they say, the empty vessels are the ones that make the most noise.
