Is Major Nelson Counting Down To New Xbox?

Xbox’s Major Nelson (AKA Larry Hryb) has added a timer to his blog over on the official Xbox site. The ostensible topic: the countdown to E3, which the timer notes is 158 days away.

However, why bother counting down to E3 if it’s just another year for Xbox to unveil the latest online strategy and slate of end of the gen games? There’s no point, which is why everyone, ourselves included, is pretty sure this countdown timer means Microsoft will be unveiling Xbox 720 at E3 this year. If so, that means we can effectively write off Playstation 3 until 2014. It also means the first next gen console to get my money probably comes out during the 2013 holiday shopping season.

Wait, unless they do a a nearly two-year console tease like Nintendo did with Wii U. Anyway, let’s all assume that this countdown means they’re unveiling the new Xbox in June, and then be crushingly disappointed when it turns out they’re just releasing some new Kinect thing.
