Itagaki: Devil’s Third Reveal “This Year”
Tomonobu Itagaki (Ninja Gaiden) confirmed today that Devil’s Third is still alive and we should see much more of it soon.
In a brief post on his personal Facebook page, Itagaki revealed the updated logo for Devil’s Third and said the long-in-development third-person shooter/melee fighter will finally be revealed this year.
“As already announced, we’ll finally reveal Devil’s Third this year!” Itagaki stated. “You can see that we’ve upgraded our title logo. I wanted to go for the metallic feeling of the Breitling that I love so much. But I don’t really wanna tell you exactly why, sorry ;D”
Devil’s Third, first announced way back in 2010, was supposed to be the Sunglassed One’s triumphant return to gaming’s big stage, but the project drifted into limbo when publisher THQ went belly up in 2012. Itagaki has been saying Devil’s Third is in its “final stages” of development since July 2012, so the latest update should be taken with numerous grains of salt.
Devil’s Third is also an Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 game, at least it was last we heard, so by the time it finally does drop (if it ever does), it will be well after the new generation of consoles have been given room to breathe. At that point, I’m not sure anyone will care about a last-gen game, even one created by Itagaki. As someone who considers Itagaki’s Ninja Gaiden to be among the finest action games ever created, I seriously hope that doesn’t turn out to be the case.
