It’ll Start Costing Money To Play Final Fantasy XIV in January

Final Fantasy XIV has kind of had a bad go of it, probably because they should have kept developing rather than launching when it did in 2010. But Square Enix recognized the problems and hasn’t been charging a subscription fee to play the game. As we discussed a little while ago, that’s about to change. Starting January 6, you’ll have to start paying a monthly subscription fee to play the game. That fee will be $9.99 for 30 days and one character slot.

As we also discussed, big changes are coming to FFXIV in the form of a major version 2.0 update that will be out sometime next year. When that happens, the monthly subscription fee will go up to $9.99 for 30 days access and $3 for a character slot.

So that’s news. I’d probably hold out for v2.0 if I were you. Just a thought.
