Journey Soundtrack Gets a Grammy Nomination

As video games continue along the path towards their eventual mainstream acceptance as an artform, it’s nice to see that facets of them are already starting to be considered as such. Case in point: Journey, the fastest-selling PSN title of all time, just got a Grammy nod for its soundtrack by composer Austin Wintory.

In fact, Journey is the only game to receive such an honor for the 2013 awards, and was nominated along with the cinematic likes of The Dark Knight (Hans Zimmer) Rises, Hugo (Howard Shore), The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (Trent Reznor), The Artist (Ludovic Bource), and The Adventures of Tintin (John Williams) in the Visual Media category. The awards ceremony will air on February 10, 2013, at 8pm PT / 7pm CT on CBS.

There’s a good reason for the soundtrack’s selection: It’s utterly amazing. If you haven’t played Journey and heard its acclaimed score, you can listen to it thanks to this official YouTube playlist. We’ve included the first track, Nascence, below.

GOTY. Tough to win the grammy for a piece without the market saturation of a Dark Knight or a Dragon Tattoo, but hopefully a reputable gaming site steps up and hands this thing GOTY.
