Just Cause 3 in Development for Next-Gen, Hints Resume
The LinkedIn profile of Avalanche Studios cofounder and CEO Christofer Sundberg hints that Just Cause 3 and a game based on Mad Max: Fury Road are planned for release in 2015 and 2014, respectively. Spotted by Superannuation, the titles are described as action games, one for a “very well-known game series,” the other, “a well-known movie license.”
The first title, an “Unnanounced Sandbox Action game” that’s being published by Square Enix, has been in development since at least August 2011, and is said to be a “new installment in a very well-known game series.” The game is being developed at Avalanche Studios’ New York studio and is scheduled for completion in June 2015 for next generation console platforms. Just Cause 1 and 2 were developed by Avalanche and published by Eidos Interactive, which is now Square Enix Europe, so a safe bet would be that this title is Just Cause 3.
The second title, an “Unnanounced Open-World Action Game” that’s been in the works since at least January 2010, has yet to have a publisher attached to the project, but will be Avalanche’s first licensed game and will be based on “a well-known movie license.” Slated for an April 2014 release, the game is being developed for current and next-generation consoles and PC. Past rumors have suggested that Avalance was working on an open-world game based on the upcoming movie, Mad Max: Fury Road, the fourth film in the Mad Max franchise.
