Kickstarter 2012 in Review: $83M Pledged to 2800 Game Projects

To celebrate 2012, Kickstarter has released a “best of” along with some impressive statistics gathered throughout the year.

Throughout 2012, in total, 2,241,475 people pledged a total of $319,786,629 and successfully funded 18,109 projects. Backers pledged, on average, $606.76 per minute to projects, and Kickstarter’s Games projects had the most money pledged: $83 million.

Kickstarter turned three years old this year, which some may call Kickstarter’s year of Gaming. February saw the Double Fine Adventure pave the way for 561,574 backers to ultimately pledge a total of $83,144,565 to 2,796 gaming projects.

While there certainly have been some tremendous Kickstarter successes this year, there also have been some failures, such as project Code Hero, which ran out of money, and Alpha Colony, which missed its $50,000 goal by $28.
