Kickstarter Games Earn Over $100m in Funding

Kickstarter, the website best known for crowdfunding hundreds of successful (and several not-so-successful) games has put together a blog post to celebrate its support for games. Since its launch, projects on the site have received $107.6 million in crowd funding, totaling 1,476 successful projects.

The site states that for the past four years, more than 633,242 have pledged to more than 4,500 games projects, with nearly 1,000 in the past year alone. They state that the success of the Double Fine Adventure in February 2012 was when the whole thing took off.

Notable games funded through Kickstarter that are already available to play include Kentucky Route Zero, Organ Trail, FTL: Faster Than Light, Strike Suit Zero, and Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams.

Some of the biggest budget games to hit Kickstarter are role-playing games, including Wasteland 2, Project Eternity, and the newly launched Torment: Tides of Numenera, and Shroud of the Avatar—all of which have gotten more than a million dollars in funding.

More details about the success of Kickstarter can be found at their official blog.
