KIFFLOM! GTA V Marketing Is Indeed Starting Up Again
UPDATE 04/25/13: Three new trailers are coming April 30th, one for each of the three protagonists.
What was it Gore Vidal said about “I told you so” being the four most beautiful words in the English language? Oh, right, he said that. And so it is that we told you so. As expected, the revival of Rockstar’s Epsilon Program Twitter account on Saturday prefaced the resumption of proper marketing for GTA V, and the first tidbit comes in the form of a new Epsilon screensaver, which helpfully reminds adherents of the cult’s goals and, naturally, its inherent, inarguable truths.
This is awesome – FACT! Love it? Download the Epsilon screensaver for yourself here.
What I find particularly fun about this is how brutal and specific it is. 12 Tenets. 12 Goals. And of course, a refreshingly honest take on what tithing actually is. “Epsilonism is a science as well as a religion. In fact, we are the only religion that is also a science… As truth seekers, we are willing to pay to make the search go better.” Anyone who’s ever spent a few minutes at Hollywood’s L. Ron Hubbard Life Exhibition, or made it through “The Way To Happiness’s” 21 “moral precepts” will immediately wonder if Rockstar is daring the church of Scientology to sue.
More is apparently coming from the Epsilon Program, at least according to their latest tweet:
The Goals and the Pledge of Epsilon will continue to be revealed in due time. #KIFFLOM

Of course, this isn’t the end of it – otherwise we wouldn’t waste your time with what is, essentially, a silly bit of fluff. Eagle-eyed gamers in Mexico City have managed to get close enough to the set of what appears to be a live action commercial Rockstar is currently filming for GTA V. (Gameranx has the full story.) We’ve seen plenty of these live action commercials before, of course, but this would be a first for the GTA series. Here’s a shot from the set:
According to the spy who leaked the photos, “The guy in the suit of the last photo exits the totaled car while talking to the camera, as he makes his way out, the car explodes and he walks by the car under the trees while some other effects are set behind him (I managed to see these in a monitor) The shooting took place on Saturday April 20th and lasted until late Sunday.” The spy is referring to pre-vis effects, which are temp effects created to assist the production in visualizing the final cut before and during a shoot. If he’s telling the truth, he managed to get very close indeed.
We’ll be keeping an eye out for more from Rockstar in the weeks to come. In the meantime, why not let us know in comments what you’re most looking forward to in the next installment of the GTA series.
