Killzone 3 Contains Over an Hour of Cutscenes
As is the case with nearly every commercially released video game, Killzone 3 was submitted to the ESRB and BBFC for rating. Sometimes, if you follow up on these ratings, you can learn a little something about the game.
In the case of Killzone 3, we really have only learned one thing: there are 70 minutes of cutscenes in the upcoming shooter. According to the BBFC’s site,
When submitted to the BBFC the linear elements within the work had a running time (eg cut scenes) of 70m 0s.
There are two points that should be made here. First, while 70 minutes sounds like a lot of cutscenes, it really isn’t. In a ten hour game, you’d only see (the equivalent of) one 7 minute cutscene per hour. That’s a far cry from the short films we had to accept as cutscenes in MGS4.
Second, you should also consider that Sony went out and secured both Malcolm McDowell and Ray Winstone to lend their voice to Killzone 3. You gotta figure they want to get as much of their content into the game as possible.
Whether the cutscenes turn out to be worth sitting through is something we’ll find out on Feb. 22, when the game lands on PS3. You can also find out before then in our review of the game. Once you’ve got a copy of the game, you’ll want to check out our Killzone 3 Game Guide.
