Killzone for Vita Getting Major Updates, Free Maps Soon
In my house we’re still all gawking over Killzone: Shadow Fall on PS4, but there’s more 2013 Killzone fun to be had on the PS Vita with Killzone Mercenary. Just in time for all the relevant Black Friday deals (Vita bundles everywhere for well under the handheld’s retail price, Mercenary for $20, memory cards for cheap, and so on), Guerrilla Cambridge is outing their plans for the next several months of updates that should make the mobile Killzone a happier experience, and one tidbit of information appears to shed some light on a possible US PS Vita TV launch next year.
The first of the series, called Update 3, will arrive in a few weeks and reduce the size of a recent 1.2gb patch down to 400mb, which is huge for all those folks who only have the 4gb memory cards that come with Vita bundles. Then in January, update 4 will address some online connectivity issues in addition to tossing in an aut-rebalance function for online matches. Update 5 the next month will add two free new multiplayer maps as well as a bot mode that can be played offline, and then update 6 after that will be to make Mercenary function as efficiently as possible on the Vita TV, which I suppose indicates that strange non-handheld version of the Vita might come to the West in the first half of next year. The Vita TV thus far had not even been announced for release outside Japan.
As somebody who is absolutely going to get this game this week once it’s discounted, this news all makes me feel pretty OK.
