Kinect and Move Will Have Wii Syndrome This Holiday, Says GameStop
Four years ago, when the Wii came out, it was so damn hard to find one that people would fight and point guns at ear other so they could get one. Basically, it was like this:
This happened because Nintendo just didn’t make enough of the goddamn things. Anyway, that long segue was leading to this: GameStop executive vice president Tony Bartel says the exact same thing is going to happen this year with Kinect and Move(who’s gonna win, though, Tony?) I’m not being hyperbolic; he is.
I think you are going to have the exact same thing with new controllers and with the Kinect Bundle that goes out. I think you are going to have consumers following the UPS truck to our stores to pick up that product as soon as they can find it.
So, we are not only excited with the sale of Kinect and with Move, both of which are going to be in short supply during the holiday season, but we like the fact that they are bringing expanded audience to games.
He then goes on to say Kinect Sports and Dance Central are selling well, and he says those titles are the “expanded audience type of games” that are attaching well to Kinect sales. What he means is that Kinect is moving really well thanks to that very important holiday season demographic known as “moms,” who just wanna find something they can play with their children, damn it!
