King of Fighters The Movie… Alrighty Then…

I was beginning to think that Hollywierd’s love of video games was kind of cool, even with the barrage of less than stellar work. I have changed my mind. Now, I can deal with the ruination of Resident Evil with movies starring that Mila Jahovawhatever. I can even handle the Mario movie from back in the day with Bob Hoskins and Dennis Hopper. The Mortal Kombat movies? Those DVDs make nice coasters or weapons to throw at your weird neighbor who shoots bottle rockets off in the middle of the night.

HOWEVER, I can think of better things to do with the time and money Gordon Chan (The Medallion, Fist of Legend) and the production companies that are backing him plan to do with it. Why ruin a perfectly good franchise once again just for kicks? Chris Chow (Fearless), is writing the script, which will have to contain a lot of filler because as we all know, there is not much to the plot. I am sure they will throw in a bunch of expensive special effects to blind the moviegoers from the three-pages of dialogue and maybe a half naked woman or 10 to give the adolescents something to grin about. What is Hollywired thinking? Are there just no ideas left? We learned long ago that most of the time; a great book makes a horrible movie (ex. Pet Cemetery, Pride and Prejudice – the one with Keira Knightly). We have learned that video games, 90% of the time, make very very VERY bad movies (Bloodrayne, Doom). I hope Mr. Chan can prove me, and the consensus wrong. Maybe if he gets his buddies Jet Li and Jackie Chan to star, King of Fighters might just make it. I won’t hold my breath though, and neither should you.
