The Phantom Pain is ’200 Times Bigger’ than Ground Zeroes
This news should satisfy fans worried about getting a bang for their buck in Snake’s next adventure: Hideo Kojima says Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain will be “over 200 times bigger” than Ground Zeroes.
According to early reports, standalone prologue game Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes‘ main mission can be completed in just two hours. I’m horrible with numbers, but I understand that means the 200-times bigger Phantom Pain will be flippin’ massive.
Eurogamer brings us the quote from Kojima, who said with Ground Zeroes, he wanted to get something into Metal Gear fans’ hands as quickly as possible:
“I’ll be honest here: this wasn’t necessarily a strategic move,” Kojima said. “The Phantom Pain is roughly over 200 times bigger than Ground Zeroes… I knew we couldn’t hit a game that big for next-gen launch date [22nd February for the PS4 in Japan], and we didn’t have any Japanese titles that were available for launch… At that time Ground Zeroes was almost complete, and a lot of fans asked for a product out there, so that’s the decision I took.”
I understand and appreciate Kojima’s decision with the prologue mission, but $30 for a two-hour main mission is seriously over-priced. The Phantom Pain better be huge given that fans will be spending roughly $100 bucks for the complete Metal Gear Solid 5 experience.
Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes is set for launch on March 18.
