Latest StarCraft 2 Patch Opens Arcade to Free Players

StarCraft 2 Patch 2.1 has arrived, and it’s as big as a Zerg Leviathan.

Most notably, Blizzard continues to make more of its sci-fi strategy game free. With 2.1, Arcade’s doors have been flung open, allowing anyone to download the Starter Edition and play any of its hundreds of games as any of StarCraft’s three races — all for free and with no time limit. Starter Edition players can even go ahead and create their own custom game types now, too.

For you full-game owners out there, Blizzard has made it easier to schedule meet-ups with an event planner that includes title, date, description, and duration options, and there are also more customization options for individual and clan icons. You can upload your own images, make them an icon, and now fly the symbol over your base. Nice touch.

But the big deal for vets is undoubtedly the new level cap. With StarCraft 2 Patch 2.1, each race can now be leveled to 35.

Lots more packed into this one. Read it all in the full StarCraft 2 Patch 2.1 notes.
