League of Legends’ April Fools Joke is Real, Fun, Playable

Not only is Riot’s April Fools joke funny — a League of Legends overhaul dubbed ‘Ultra Rapid Fire’ where there are no mana or energy costs for abilities and cooldowns are reduced by 80% — it’s actually a real mode and you can play it right now.

In the joke portion of this gag, Riot describes Ultra Rapid Fire as the future of competitive LoL, a sweeping set of dramatic changes that will be put in place next season. That’s the haha part. The real part is Ultra Rapid Fire actually is a mode you can play now and for the next week before Riot says it will be removed. Here are the major Ultra Rapid Fire changes:

MANA AND ENERGY COST All ability costs reduced to 0
COOLDOWN REDUCTION 80% on abilities, activated items and summoner spells
MOVEMENT SPEED +60 for all champions
TENACITY +25% for all champions
ATTACK SPEED BONUSES Bonuses given by items/abilities increased by 100% on ranged champions
CRITICAL STRIKE DAMAGE Increased by 25% of base damage on ranged champions
GOLD GAIN +500% of the amount normally granted on Summoner’s Rift
Essentially, it’s like having a level 18 character right from the outset. And it’s a fun, ridiculous change of pace.
