League of Legends: Magma Chamber Revived
The new Magma Chamber map was unveiled at the All-Star Showdown in Shanghai last week for League of Legends. It has been redesigned as a 1v1 or 2v2 map for duelers and dueling pairs. It is significantly smaller than the the current 5v5 maps. Just like the Howling Abyss, players can’t go back to heal.
The original concept of the Magma Chamber was a 5v5 arena, which was first announced by Riot in 2010. From a lore perspective, the Chamber was at the center of a powerful but idle volcano. Magma flows out of a giant room that the League repurposed. It was meant to be an alternate to Summoner’s Rift. It was envisioned as a larger map with extended lanes (longer than Summoner’s Rift). New monsters gave different buffs. Teleportation pads allowed players to move quickly from one part of the map to the other. Eventually, the map concept was reworked into the Dominion game format instead.
Victory conditions at the All-Star game
- Kill 100 minions
- Destroy the turret
- Get 1st blood in 1v1 or get 2 kills in 2v2
It’s great to see another map being worked on for a new game mode! There is finally a solution to all the frustrated players who get angry after losing their lane.
You know who I’m referring to.
They’re the players that go “1v1 me bro!”.
Now there is a place where players can go to hone their skills! There’s no other way to claim the right for best top, mid, bot, or jungle players other than Magma Chamber now! If you watch the video below between North America’s Doublelift and Xpecial against Garena Premier League’s Chawy and Mistake. This was one of the quickest matches played during the skills competition portion of the All Star week.
We don’t know if the victory conditions in the All Star week will translate to the final iteration of the map. Riot is hoping to launch the map just before Season 4. There is still much testing and balance work that needs to be done.
What do you think of the new map? Which champions do you think will reign supreme?
