League of Legends Season 2 World Championships Winners: Taipei Assassins

The Taipei Assassins won this year’s League of Legends Season 2 world championship title and $1 million in prize money. The team lost its first finals game against Azubu Frost, but went on to win the next three games in a row.

A replay of the League of Legends Season 2 finals is available at Twitch.tv.

Allegations of cheating prompted an investigation last week during the semi-finals, in which Riot Games ultimately ruled that Azubu Frost had violated game rules by acting on information gleaned from observing a spectator mini-map. The team was fined $30,000 for cheating.

The League of Legends Season 2 championships drew a sold-out crowd to the 10,000 seat Galen Center Arena at USC. According to Riot Games eSports coordinator Jon Stein, more than 900,000 players watched the finals via livestream from Twitch.tv and Own3d.tv. Go eSports!
