Track Hobbits
In this level, you’ll begin near the edge of the forest. There’s a burnt pile with three targets on top. Time to start looking for clues.
Here, you’ll play as Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli. Aragorn is a good swordfighter that can also track when he picks up items that give off green fog.
Legolas has a bow, which he can use to the shoot targets, or shoot arrow-slots which he can use to jump to high spots. He can also jump higher than the rest, and walk on tightropes.
Gimli can smash cracked Lego bricks, or he can be thrown at out-of-reach cracked Lego bricks by Legolas or Aragorn.
To start the level off, use Legolas’ bow to shoot all three targets on the funeral pyre. Construct the hopping bricks that roll down to form a bridge up toward a cracked Lego brick.
Switch to Gimli, and jump-attack to smash the cracked brick at the top of the pile. Doing so will drop an item that gives off green fog.
Remember that green fog items allow Aragorn to track. Pick up the item with Aragorn, and have it equipped. A trail of green fog will appear nearby, follow it to discover more clues.
Follow the bricks until Aragorn digs up another foggy item. Pick it up, and follow another path of fog.
This time, he’ll dig up hopping bricks. Construct them into a gold hook, placed on the Lego rock nearby. You have no rope, yet.
To get a rope, run left and look up for a target. Use Legolas to shoot down the target, then pick up the rope.
Use the rope on the gold hook, to reveal another green fogged item. Pick it up with Aragorn and follow the trail left around the embers.
It leads to another foggy item, and yet another trail. Follow that trail of green! It’ll lead toward a brown wall of Lego plants. Aragorn will dig up a cracked block at the base of the Lego wall.
To smash through the wall of Lego bricks, use Gimli’s jump-attack on the cracked brick. Through the opened path, you’ll find another green foggy item. Grab it with Aragorn!
You know what to do by now – follow the trail of green smoke. This one will lead all the way toward the background, to the brown Lego bushes blocking the entrance into the forest.
Follow the fog to the bushes, and the path will part. Instead of continuing on with these three, you’ll switch perspectives to Merry and Pippin.
Merry and Pippin rush into the forest as Orcs give chase. Run right, and smash the Lego tree trunk in your path with a few attacks.
The tree will slide down the hill. More Orcs will appear behind as you run down the slope. Fight them off, then right path the orange handle to find two Lego handholds. Have both Merry and Pippin hang from the handholds to pull the Lego object down.
The object will smash into hopping bricks. Build them to form a ladder leading up.
Up the ladder, run right until more Orcs show up to ruin your day. If you look closely, against the right side of the area you’ll see a tiny door blocked by Lego plants and rocks.
Defeat the new Orcs until a large armored Orc appears. Defeat him too, then clear off any more Lego debris to access the tiny door.
Use the door, and continue running right until you spot a large Lego object between two Lego trees. Break the two small trees to the left and right, then construct the bouncing bricks.
The constructed bricks will create a series of handholds for the Hobbits to use on the larger Lego object. Climb all the way up to the top and you’ll find…
Treebeard! This tree-man is now controlled by Pippin. Pick up Merry with the interact button, and continue on your way to see the White Wizard Saruman.
Treebeard doesn’t have to worry much about Orcs. Just stomp your way through them, until you reach a barricade with Orcs carrying bows!
Here, you’ll see two large Lego rocks glowing. Interact with these to throw the rocks. Pick one up and throw it at the barricade to smash through.
Continue down the path until Orcs try to stop you with a flaming log. Treebeard is an Ent, and doesn’t really like fire.
To get rid of the fire, switch to Merry and use the tiny door on the tree, to the left of the fire. Up above, grab onto the vine to douse the fires in water, putting them out. Now you can continue stomping through the forest with Pippin!
Just up the hill, you’ll complete the level.
Back in control of Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli, and Gandalf, you’ll appear on the road to Rohan with horses! Ride toward the city, using the ghostly studs to guide you.
As you enter Rohan’s gates, the next level will begin.

Question: you say above “Now, you begin a new level proper with four Hobbits in your team. You’ll have Frodo, Sam, Merry and Pippin together.”… but I only have Frodo and Sam. That means when I get to the fishing part, I’m completely stuck – because I don’t have a character who can fish.
I’ve tried restarting, but it only lets me restart back to the Gandalf fight, and when I make it back to the Hobbits… again, only Frodo and Sam are there.
Any suggestions on what I can do? Even if I have to force restart the whole level to try again, fine – but I can’t even get it to do that.

Use Gollum to do the fishing!

In this taming Gollum level, I cannot switch weapons with Frodo’s to choose the light so that I can go in the cave. I’m not really sure what to do next since I can’t access that fish without it. Any suggestions?

@Nicole,
If you’re unable to switch weapons/items, try simply walking into the dark cave with Frodo. He’ll automatically take out his light for you, which is really handy.
Let me know if that helps, or if you encounter any other problems.

Regarding the checkered pattern of Lego bricks with the boulder: you have to give the boulder a good push so that it falls, then topples over to create a path for Isildur. If you just nudge it off the pattern, the boulder will stand up in the lava and not topple. If this happens, restart the level and really put your shoulder into it next time, Elrond.
Melissa, regarding using the fishing pole, you can play any combination of the four Hobbits (use Z or C to change characters). You just can’t be the same Hobbit at once.

Melissa — I had the same issue and finally figured out the answer. You actually can play with all four characters on the Wii version (and most likely all versions of course), even though it only shows two at a time. You start with Frodo and Sam, but if you hold down “C” you can switch characters and pick Merry. This allows you to fish and move throw the river portion of this level. I hope that helps!

@Kerry,
Are you fighting the ghost leader at the end of the level? If so, make sure you hit him with Aragorn’s sword during the fight — can you give a little more description? I’ll try to help however I can.
Thanks for the comment, Kerry!

@jim,
There are two ways to break shiny objects. You can buy fireworks at the mithril shop, if you can unlock it — or you can buy the Berserker character after finishing Helm’s Deep during the campaign. Either of those explosive choices should allow you to destroy shiny bricks.

I am on the level and I accidently played as Frodo the whole time and now Sam can’t wear any armor. What can I do? Frodo has both helmets and breast pieces and we aren’t disguised.

@Jennifer,
Sadly, you might need to restart from the beginning. I had to do the same thing while playing, make sure you collect the armor in order. I collected the armor out of order my first time, and some weird bugs show up that’ll stop your progress dead.
