The Paths of the Dead

Aragorn, Gimli and Legolas make up your party for this mission. Aragorn also has a sword capable of destroying black Lego structures with glowing red cracks.

There’s just one path to follow. Run forward through the green-tinted caves. Eventually, you’ll find spooky green mist. Don’t stand still on the mist! Just keep moving forward through the caves.

Far ahead, you’ll run into a chamber with a high ledge. Fog erupts from the floor, and there are four Morgul Lego objects scattered around the room.

Morgul Lego objects are the black bricks with glowing red. Use Aragorn’s sword to destroy all four Morgul Lego objects.

Destroy all four, and build the bricks into steps, allowing you to reach the high ledge and continue forward. Ahead, the next room gives you some options to explore – it’s very large, and you’ll notice a jump-marker on the left.

Left of the jump-marker is a cracked Lego floor. Use Gimli to crush it with his jump-attack, then build the bricks into a tiny door. Use the tiny door to reach the high landing in the background.

Legolas can join Gimli by jumping up with the flowery jump-marker. When you do, switch to Legolas and shoot an arrow into the arrow-slot. With an arrow in place, jump up to it and swing, jumping to the next level up.

From here, Legolas can push down the crate on the push-surface, where Gimli can construct the bricks into a ladder. Climb up with Gimli, and follow the floating Lego studs into the background.

Use the handholds on the left wall to avoid the grabby zombie arms, then run all the way to the back wall. Jump right, just above the door, to find another cracked floor. Crush it with Gimli’s jump-attack.

With the door smashed open, all three Lego adventurers can move into the cavern. Keep running, avoiding the deep foggy spots, until you reach an impassable chasm. Shoot the two arrow targets with Legolas; there’s one on the left, and one on the right.

Construct the hopping bricks to form a bridge, and keep moving deeper into the cavern. Next, you’ll find a very large chamber where ghosts will attack!

Only Aragorn can defeat ghosts. Get rid of them, then destroy the Morgul Lego on the right side of the area, using Aragon’s sword.

Next, travel to the left side of the area to crush the cracked brick in the wall. Construct the bricks that pop out into a high handhold, then switch to Legolas to make the high jump.

There’s a long stretch of deep fog ahead on the upper platform. To avoid it, shoot an arrow into the arrow-slot, then jump across. Push the crate down to form a stepping stone for the rest of the ground to reach a wall of more Morgul Lego objects.

Morgul Lego objects can only be destroyed with Aragorn’s sword. Smash all the Morgul objects, then switch to Gimli and destroy the Lego wall by attacking the cracked Lego brick.

Now you’re getting somewhere! There’s a gate ahead, but it’s locked. Solve this room by look right for a statue sitting on top of a Morgul Lego object on a push-surface.

Use Aragorn’s sword to destroy the Morgul Lego object and drop the statue down to your height. Push the statue out of the way, toward the background, to reveal a ladder.

Up top, you’ll find a tightrope – but Gimli can’t cross over, and he needs to! Instead, cross the tightrope with Legolas, then switch to Aragorn. Pick up Gimli, then target Legolas – Aragorn will throw the dwarf to the waiting arms of the elf.

Now, switch back to Legolas, set Gimli down, and use Gimli to crush the cracked Lego floor on the landing with the inaccessible Lego wall.

When destroyed, the cracked floor will leave behind constructable bricks. Build the bricks to form a tiny door. Use Gimli to crawl through, and you’ll appear in an unreachable area to the left of the gate.

Look closely in the fog – there’s a spinner! Use it to open the gates out of this room. Jump down, run up the stone steps and through the raised gate.

Through the gate, you’ll finally encounter the dead army! Their leader doesn’t take too kindly to you. The ghosts will have you surrounded in a small arena with four cracked floors.

Use Gimli to smash all four cracked floors, while Aragorn defeats any incoming ghosts. Once all four cracked stones are broken, they’ll leave hopping bricks. Use Aragorn to construct the bricks; if ghosts get too close to Gimli or Legolas, they’ll be stunned. Aragorn isn’t afraid, and is therefore immune.

The bricks will construct into a raised platform. Jump up onto it, and wait for the Ghost Leader to float down. Use Aragorn to attack him when he lowers, you can only hit him while you’re standing on the platform.

Hit him three times, and he’ll fly away. The doors into the next room will swing open and spit out a deluge of bones!

The bones will destroy your platform, but they’ll also leave behind hopping bricks. Build the new bricks into a new platform with Aragorn.

The Leader will attack the same way as he did before. Wait for him to lower, then hit him three times.

After three attacks, another wave of bones will destroy your platform. But, once again, it’ll leave stacks of bricks to construct. There are four piles of hopping bricks, construct all four.

The ghost leader will fly to each of the four platforms. Attack him once, and he’ll destroy whatever platform he’s currently at.

Hit him once at each of these four platforms to defeat the ghost. Now that the ghosts are on your side, the level is complete.

Now, it’s time to ride to Minas Tirith with King Theoden, Eowyn, and Merry. The city isn’t far. Join the rest of the waiting riders to begin the battle.

Question: you say above “Now, you begin a new level proper with four Hobbits in your team. You’ll have Frodo, Sam, Merry and Pippin together.”… but I only have Frodo and Sam. That means when I get to the fishing part, I’m completely stuck – because I don’t have a character who can fish.

I’ve tried restarting, but it only lets me restart back to the Gandalf fight, and when I make it back to the Hobbits… again, only Frodo and Sam are there.

Any suggestions on what I can do? Even if I have to force restart the whole level to try again, fine – but I can’t even get it to do that.

Use Gollum to do the fishing!

In this taming Gollum level, I cannot switch weapons with Frodo’s to choose the light so that I can go in the cave. I’m not really sure what to do next since I can’t access that fish without it. Any suggestions?

If you’re unable to switch weapons/items, try simply walking into the dark cave with Frodo. He’ll automatically take out his light for you, which is really handy.

Let me know if that helps, or if you encounter any other problems.

Regarding the checkered pattern of Lego bricks with the boulder: you have to give the boulder a good push so that it falls, then topples over to create a path for Isildur. If you just nudge it off the pattern, the boulder will stand up in the lava and not topple. If this happens, restart the level and really put your shoulder into it next time, Elrond.

Melissa, regarding using the fishing pole, you can play any combination of the four Hobbits (use Z or C to change characters). You just can’t be the same Hobbit at once.

Melissa — I had the same issue and finally figured out the answer. You actually can play with all four characters on the Wii version (and most likely all versions of course), even though it only shows two at a time. You start with Frodo and Sam, but if you hold down “C” you can switch characters and pick Merry. This allows you to fish and move throw the river portion of this level. I hope that helps!

Are you fighting the ghost leader at the end of the level? If so, make sure you hit him with Aragorn’s sword during the fight — can you give a little more description? I’ll try to help however I can.

    Thanks for the comment, Kerry!

what is used to break shining objects through out the game

    Kevin Thielenhaus

    On February 19, 2013 at 3:00 am

There are two ways to break shiny objects. You can buy fireworks at the mithril shop, if you can unlock it — or you can buy the Berserker character after finishing Helm’s Deep during the campaign. Either of those explosive choices should allow you to destroy shiny bricks.

I am on the level and I accidently played as Frodo the whole time and now Sam can’t wear any armor. What can I do? Frodo has both helmets and breast pieces and we aren’t disguised.

Sadly, you might need to restart from the beginning. I had to do the same thing while playing, make sure you collect the armor in order. I collected the armor out of order my first time, and some weird bugs show up that’ll stop your progress dead.

I’m stuck at the end of level three….the pass of caradhras….have put the pieces in the door, built the fire pit and collected two of the fire pieces. But the one behind the “wood wall” I can not get to. Walkthrough says to just smash it….have tried every character available to me and no one breaks it….really getting frustrated….any suggestions. Have restarted level already.

Stuck in the Mines of Moria:
We are stuck in the Mines of Moria. We have smashed the two chests and finished the well. We have unlocked the chest with the key and found the gear. We have smashed the wall and found the crank. We have installed the gear and the crank (in that order). Once the crank is in place, we get the sign to turn it and can see the little meter, but the crank will not turn. ALl the characters go to the crank and put their hands on it, but it does not turn. We have tried all available characters. We have gone back several times and tried completing the various sections in a different order, but nothing seems to work. The game was purchased from a chain store. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Weird. We’re having the same problem as Kerry a year ago. At the end of Paths of the Dead, we kill the King of the Dead on the first platform, then on the second. Then we build the four columns for the third stage. We fight him atop each platform, then he destroys it and keeps flying from platform location to platform location, including the platforms that have already been destroyed. After fighting him on the fourth platform, he destroys that one too, but keeps flying around.

I just watched a video walkthrough, and there, as soon as the King was defeated on hte fourth platform, it went to a cutscene without showing him destroying that platform. So I think we must have a buggy version of the game. Is that possible?
