The Fellowship of the Ring

The Two Towers

The Return of the King

The Pass of Caradhras

Starting this level, let’s look at your party. This time, you’ve got Frodo, Sam, Merry, Pippin, Aragorn, Gimli, Gandalf, Boromir, and Legolas. That’s a massive team!

To your right, you’ll immediately hit the first obstactle. Deep snow can’t be crossed by short characters like the Hobbits (Frodo, Merry, Sam, and Pippin) or Dwarves (Gimli).

Switch to Aragorn, then interact with Gimli to pick him up. You’ll need him right, where he can use his axe to break the cracked Lego ice. Once cracked, interact with the revealed tiny door to find more cracked ice.

This cracked ice is on the ground. Use a jump-attack to smash it with Gimli’s axe! The deep snow will drop off, letting the rest of the hobbits cross over with ease.

Return through the tiny door, then switch to another tall character like Aragorn. Pick up Gimli with Aragorn (Or Legolas, Boromir, and Gandalf) and throw them to the cracked ice above by holding down the attack button.

Gimli will destroy the entire cliff wall when thrown, and reveal handholds to the left of the tiny door. Climb up and shimmy over to the get inside the cave above.

Inside the cave, there’s a push-surface. Push the rock inside out onto the ground below, making a stepping stone up to the tall ledge on the right.

Further right, you’ll find yet another bunch of deep snow. Switch to a tall character and pick up Gimli, taking him through the snow and setting him down to smash the cracked ice.

Switch to Gandalf, smash the ice, and crawl through the tiny door and jump-attack to smash the ice, getting rid of the deep snow.

With the deep snow gone, use the tiny door again to find another flat cracked ice Lego bricks. Jump-attack again to smash it with Gimli.

Smash the ice, and you’ll find hopping bricks to construct. Put them together, and you’ll create yet another set of stepping stones to reach the high ledge in the background.

Climb the stepping stones with Gimli and smash the ice to create a new path further right. Legolas is next, further right you’ll find a series of four targets. Shoot all four targets with Legolas’ arrows.

Once all four are broken, shimmy across the handhold. In the next area, you’ll need to start a fire with three sets of Lego wood.

The first wood item is in the back left corner. Smash the old wooden box, then smash the wooden crate in the forward-right crate. The last is in the back right, inside a crate.

Pick up all three and set them down at the fire place, then use Sam to light the fire. The flames will melt the ice, revealing lots more hopping bricks.

Construct the new hopping bricks to build a ballista. Hop into the device, press the button listed, then fire using the attack button. That’ll launch a line, which you can jump onto to walk across the tightrope. Switch to Legolas to walk across the tightrope, up and right.

Up top, look left and up to find three arrow-slots. Fire an arrow into each slot, and a flowery jumping marker will appear. Jump up to the first arrow-slot, then leap across all three.

On this next upper area, you’ll find some wooden Lego devices further left. Shoot the target to drop a rope down so the rest of the Fellowship can climb up to meet Legolas.

When Gimli reaches the top, he’ll bounce around – that means you need to use a tall character to throw Gimli at the cracked ice nearby. Pick him up and throw him to reach the dangerous ledge above.

Just ahead, you’ll find more deep snow. Grab Gimli and run across the snow, then switch to Gimli and crawl through the tiny door left of the ice blocking your way.

Through the tiny door, you’ll find yet another cracked ice block. Jump-attack to smash it, opening the way across the deep snow and leaving behind a set of bouncing bricks below.

Hop down and construct the bricks to form a campfire. Use Sam to set the fire and melt the ice to the fire’s right.

Run right through the falling ice-blocks with a tall character, then pick up Gimli and throw him at the cracked ice across the gap.

The rocks will break apart, letting the Fellowship jump this gap. Instead of Gimli, you’ll need Sam next. Switch to a tall character and pick up Sam once he’s over the gap. Carry Sam across the deep snow, where you’ll find a patch of Lego soil.

Use Sam on the circle of light to dig up more bricks. Construct the bricks to create a tiny door, then get Gimli over the deep snow to crawl through this new tiny door.

Why? Because there’s cracked ice through the tiny door. Smash it, and the deep snow will clear off. Switch to Sam now, and crawl through the tiny door to reach the cave area where Gimli broke the ice block.

There’s more Lego soil replacing the ice block. Dig up the soil, and construct the brown bricks that pop out. Construct the parts to create a bridge, but don’t rush ahead.

To cross the gap, you’ll need to time your movement to avoid the gusts of wind. Stand on the brown bridge, then walk forward after the wind slows.

Past the bridge, hop up the platforms to find another campfire – this one requires three Lego wood items.

All three wood items are found in the Lego camp in the cave, in the background area. Smash the entire camp until all three items pop up. Collect all three, and set them all down on the fire circle.

Once the wood is in place, set a fire and the ice to your left will melt, revealing Lego soil. Interact with the circle of light to create new steps for the Fellowship to jump across.

Now, it’s Legolas’ turn. Switch to the elf and shoot at the targets in the upper right corner of the area. Shoot both targets, then construct the hopping bricks that drop down.

The constructed bricks will create an ice-block to your right, against the rocky wall. Use Gimli to smash the ice, which has the added benefit of breaking down the entire wall.

Run through the deep snow with tall characters to your right, until the Fellowship changes their minds and turns back!

The group decides to go through the mines instead of the mountains. In this new area, you’ll need to figure out how to open the secret door.

Switch to Sam, and dig up the soil right in front of the door with green Lego bricks. You’ll dig up hopping bricks, which construct into a new fire circle. To light the fire, you’ll need to find three Lego wood bundles.

Run left to find Legolas waiting new a flowery jump marker. Above him is an arrow-slot. Shoot an arrow into the slot, then jump up to the ledge with Legolas. Up on the rocky platform, jump again to cross the gap left using the arrow-slot.

On the next rocks, you’ll need to jump up and toward yet another flowery jump mark above. Get to it to find a handhold leading right.

At the end of the handhold is a small rock ledge. Drop down to it, and shoot an arrow into the arrow slow further right, then use it to jump ahead. Cross the wooden bridge, then push the statue off the ledge.

The smashed statue below will reveal hopping bricks, which will fill in the green spaces on the door when built. Now you just need to find more things to smash!

Switch to the right side now, where Gimli is waiting next to a cracked ice brick. Smash it to reveal a tiny door, then crawl through the door with Gimli.

Through the door, look right for two stacked wooden Lego crates. Smash them to create stepping stones, leading up to a hanging rope Gimli can jump on to reach the upper areas of the screen.

Jump onto the platform, and smash the Lego crate right of the tree. Construct the hopping bricks it produces to create a pushable green switch attached to the tree. Press against the green side and tap the button that appears rapidly to create a path.

Further left is a flat cracked ice block. Use Gimli’s jump attack to smash it. That reveals more hopping bricks that, once constructed, fill in the remaining green spaces and completes the door.

Now you just need fire. Left of the door, but before reaching the jump markers, you can find a Lego crate. Smash it for a wooden Lego bundle.

In the far left corner, you’ll find a second crate containing a wooden bundle when smashed. The last part is right nearby, in the foreground ahead of the circle there’s a small wooden jetty. Smash it and retrieve the last bundle.

Place all three on the fire, then use Sam’s kinderbox to light the campfire. With everything complete, this section is finished.

But, it’s never that easy! A sea-monster attacks, and you’ll need to defeat it. Switch to Aragorn or any other character with a sword, and make sure to choose it from their inventory! Even Gandalf has a sword.

When the tentacles attack, they’ll get stuck in the sand. This is your chance to attack, look for the glowing red bricks on the tentacle, and hit those sections with jump-attacks.

A handful of jump-attacks will defeat each tentacle. Defeat four tentacles, and the monster will show itself!

It protects its face with a cracked ice brick. Pick up Gimli with a tall character and throw him right at the ice to shatter the monster’s shield.

Next, swap for Legolas and shoot an arrow right where the pointers appear over the monster’s face. It’ll go nuts! Just keep moving and you’ll be fine.

Eventually, it’ll try to protect itself with ice again. Simply throw Gimli again, followed by one of Legolas’ arrows to send the monster away.

That saves Frodo, and get the Fellowship into the mines.

You’ll reappear right outside the mine entrance, with the secret doors already open. Simply run inside to start the next level.

Question: you say above “Now, you begin a new level proper with four Hobbits in your team. You’ll have Frodo, Sam, Merry and Pippin together.”… but I only have Frodo and Sam. That means when I get to the fishing part, I’m completely stuck – because I don’t have a character who can fish.

I’ve tried restarting, but it only lets me restart back to the Gandalf fight, and when I make it back to the Hobbits… again, only Frodo and Sam are there.

Any suggestions on what I can do? Even if I have to force restart the whole level to try again, fine – but I can’t even get it to do that.

Use Gollum to do the fishing!

In this taming Gollum level, I cannot switch weapons with Frodo’s to choose the light so that I can go in the cave. I’m not really sure what to do next since I can’t access that fish without it. Any suggestions?

    @Nicole,

If you’re unable to switch weapons/items, try simply walking into the dark cave with Frodo. He’ll automatically take out his light for you, which is really handy.

Let me know if that helps, or if you encounter any other problems.

Regarding the checkered pattern of Lego bricks with the boulder: you have to give the boulder a good push so that it falls, then topples over to create a path for Isildur. If you just nudge it off the pattern, the boulder will stand up in the lava and not topple. If this happens, restart the level and really put your shoulder into it next time, Elrond.

Melissa, regarding using the fishing pole, you can play any combination of the four Hobbits (use Z or C to change characters). You just can’t be the same Hobbit at once.

Melissa — I had the same issue and finally figured out the answer. You actually can play with all four characters on the Wii version (and most likely all versions of course), even though it only shows two at a time. You start with Frodo and Sam, but if you hold down “C” you can switch characters and pick Merry. This allows you to fish and move throw the river portion of this level. I hope that helps!

    @Kerry,

Are you fighting the ghost leader at the end of the level? If so, make sure you hit him with Aragorn’s sword during the fight — can you give a little more description? I’ll try to help however I can.

    Thanks for the comment, Kerry!

what is used to break shining objects through out the game

    Kevin Thielenhaus

    On February 19, 2013 at 3:00 am

    @jim,

There are two ways to break shiny objects. You can buy fireworks at the mithril shop, if you can unlock it — or you can buy the Berserker character after finishing Helm’s Deep during the campaign. Either of those explosive choices should allow you to destroy shiny bricks.

I am on the level and I accidently played as Frodo the whole time and now Sam can’t wear any armor. What can I do? Frodo has both helmets and breast pieces and we aren’t disguised.

    @Jennifer,

Sadly, you might need to restart from the beginning. I had to do the same thing while playing, make sure you collect the armor in order. I collected the armor out of order my first time, and some weird bugs show up that’ll stop your progress dead.

I’m stuck at the end of level three….the pass of caradhras….have put the pieces in the door, built the fire pit and collected two of the fire pieces. But the one behind the “wood wall” I can not get to. Walkthrough says to just smash it….have tried every character available to me and no one breaks it….really getting frustrated….any suggestions. Have restarted level already.

Stuck in the Mines of Moria:
We are stuck in the Mines of Moria. We have smashed the two chests and finished the well. We have unlocked the chest with the key and found the gear. We have smashed the wall and found the crank. We have installed the gear and the crank (in that order). Once the crank is in place, we get the sign to turn it and can see the little meter, but the crank will not turn. ALl the characters go to the crank and put their hands on it, but it does not turn. We have tried all available characters. We have gone back several times and tried completing the various sections in a different order, but nothing seems to work. The game was purchased from a chain store. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Weird. We’re having the same problem as Kerry a year ago. At the end of Paths of the Dead, we kill the King of the Dead on the first platform, then on the second. Then we build the four columns for the third stage. We fight him atop each platform, then he destroys it and keeps flying from platform location to platform location, including the platforms that have already been destroyed. After fighting him on the fourth platform, he destroys that one too, but keeps flying around.

I just watched a video walkthrough, and there, as soon as the King was defeated on hte fourth platform, it went to a cutscene without showing him destroying that platform. So I think we must have a buggy version of the game. Is that possible?
