The Fellowship of the Ring

The Two Towers

The Return of the King

The Mines of Moria

It doesn’t take long for Pippin to get into trouble. That’s one less member of the Fellowship – time to mount a rescue.

Look in the background for the well. When you get close, you’ll see an orange circle with a gear inside. That’s your goal, you’ll need to find a Lego gear.

You’ll also need to fix the well. The the left and right of the well are two locked grey chests. Smash both open, then construct the hopping bricks that pop out to fix the well.

Further left is a cracked Lego brick. Smash it with Gimli to find another Lego part. Pick it up and stow it away, then switch to Legolas. There’s a target for him to shoot on the right side of the screen.

Shooting the target will drop a Lego item, but to open it you’ll need a Lego key. Now things are getting complicated!

Let’s take stock; Gimli (or whoever!) has the Lego piece from the cracked Lego wall, and you still need a Lego gear, and a Lego key. The well should be fixed.

On the far right side is a stack of wood with an orange circle with fire floating about. That means, switch to Same and interact while standing on the brown Lego plate to burn down the Lego wood.

The Lego wood will burn, revealing a key! Use the key on the key marker above the treasure chest just to your left. Doing so will reveal the Lego gear you need!

Simply deposit the Lego gear onto the wall, and you’ll see you need a crank. Switch to Gimli or whoever picked up the Lego piece that fell out of the cracked wall to your left and use it on the device next to the well.

Now, just press the button on screen and mash it while near the crank to save Pippin!

Things are never easy. Once Pippin is saved, Orcs will knock on the door to get inside. Slow them down! Construct the hopping bricks to the left and right of the doors.

Next, switch to Legolas and shoot the targets on the pillars, also left and right of the door, but a bit closer to the foreground. Once you shoot a target, a chain will drop down. Have two characters pull on both chains to bar the doors even more!

Of course, that doesn’t work. Orcs burst in. Switch to your favorite character and start brawling. Just keep fighting Orcs, when you’ve defeated enough of them, a Cave Troll will burst onto the scene.

This giant monster isn’t so easy to defeat! Switch to Legolas, and look to your right or left. You should see flowery jump markers onto of Lego crates. Use the jump markers to reach the higher ledges to your left or right.

Once you reach a high ledge, the Cave Troll will try to crush you with it’s ball-and-chain. Instead of letting it, hide behind the Lego rock and smash it.

Stand on the new empty space where the Lego rock was. Wait for it to roar, then jump away when it attacks. If you’ve done it correctly, the ball-and-chain will get stuck!

Now Legolas can attack. Jump onto the taut chain and run down it like a tightrope. While on the tightrope, aim your arrow and shoot the Troll in the face!

Simply repeat the process again on the opposite side, to hurt him again. But, that isn’t enough to defeat a Cave Troll.

You’ll see some hopping bricks appear in the center of the area after hurting the Troll again. Use Legolas to build a new flat surface, then stand on it and await the Troll’s attack just like before.

After the strike lands, the Troll will hit itself! Watch the short cutscene that follows.

When you’re back in control, a hobbit will be riding on the Troll’s back! Mash the attack button! Once you do enough damage, four pointers will appear over the troll’s face. Now it’s time for Legolas to do his thing.

Switch to Legolas and shoot an arrow at the Troll’s face once the gold target has appeared.

Now what? Look to your left and right. There are now hopping bricks, if you didn’t notice them before, that can be built into tiny doors for short characters. Switch to a Hobbit, build a door, then crawl through to reach a high ledge.

Without his ball-and-chain, the Troll can’t reach your characters up on the ledge anymore! You should spot a gold circle, wait on it until the Troll attacks. Once it does, press the on screen prompt to jump on its back.

Mash the attack button until the Troll is stunned, then shoot it in the face with Legolas’ bow and arrow!

One more attack to go! Climb back up, jump on its back using the gold circle through the tiny door, and attack to stun, then shoot it with Legolas. That last hit will finally defeat the beast.

But those Orcs just won’t stop coming! After the scene, you’ll be in a protected circle with Gandalf. Switch to Legolas or Gimli and fight Orcs, you’ll need to defeat the first wave of three.

Once the first three are defeated, Gandalf will move forward. For the next wave, you’ll need to defeat five. The third wave pits you against seven, so stay on your toes!

With all three waves defeated, a terrible monster will appear in the distance. Yep, it’s the Balrog, and he isn’t happy. Gandalf says to run, so follow his example and follow the rest of the Fellowship!

Further left, you’ll be blocked by a door. There’s a fire, and a pool of water. Switch to Pippin, he can fill his bucket with water from the pool. Use the water-filled bucket to put out the fire in the center of the room.

Next, switch to Gandalf and interact with the purple Lego gear to put it into place. Just move it forward and right to slot it in between and below the two brown Lego cogs.

Grab Gimli and crush the cracked Lego brick, then construct the hopping bricks that pop out. The bricks will fix the push-surface, allowing you to push the cart toward the door.

Now all you need is a Lego crank. You’ll find it by smashing the Lego barrel to the left of the large door. Grab that crank, attach it to the device, and crank to open the door!

Now that the door is open, run through, and you’ll come out on a dangerous set of steps. Follow the silver and gold studs down, until you’re stopped by a destroyed section of bridge!

Switch to Legolas, and pick up Gimli to throw him over to the rest of your team on the middle section of broken bridge.

Gimli will land and destroy the cracked brick, opening up a tiny door. Switch to Sam and go through the tiny door, then shimmy right using the tightrope to find a pile of wooden Lego blocks that Sam can light on fire.

Light that fire to burn down the strut, knocking both sections of the bridge down! But, there’s still a wooden Lego wall in your way.

Swap out to Legolas, and shoot the two targets attached to the Lego wall blocking your path. That will lower the wall, allowing you to continue running down the steps.

At the bridge, Gandalf will make his heroic stand to stop the evil Balrog! But, it doesn’t work out as planned. When the scene ends, you’ll be in control of Gandalf as he drops into the endless hole with the Balrog!

Hold the jump button to dive forward, on the way down you’ll retrieve your sword! Once Gandalf lands on the monster, mash the attack button, as quick as you can.

Mash enough, and the prompt will change. Press whatever button appears, and Gandalf will be thrown free. Now, catch up again by diving with the jump button.

When you land, repeat the process – only this time, the Balrog will fight back! Move left or right when the monster looks at Gandalf to avoid taking a face-full of flame breath.

Keep attacking until you’re given a different prompt – press it, and then dive back after the falling creature once you’re thrown off.

This time, the Balrog will grab you first. Mash attack to free yourself, then you’ll land on its chest. Keep attacking and avoiding its flame breath, then press the interactive prompt as it flashes on screen.

That finishes off the Balrog, now the Fellowship needs to escape! Switch to Legolas and go up the steps in the foreground to find a target. Shoot it to reveal an arrow-slot, then shoot an arrow into the slot. Now Legolas can jump the gap to reach the higher ledge past the fallen stairs.

Up top, run toward the exit in the background and look left for more Lego gears. Attack them to drop a ladder down for the rest of the Fellowship, then run toward the exit door.

The door is protected by more Orcs! Defeat them, then smash the cracked Lego brick to open the doors. With the doors open, you can now run outside and complete the level.

Your next goal isn’t so far away. Follow the trail of glowing bricks to the Elven city’s entrance just as you arrive at the woods.

Once you arrive, the nice Elves will lend your Fellowship some boats! Tap the attack button to row, and you’ll arrive at the gates of Argonath – with the two big statues!

Through the gates, you’ll begin the next and final level of the Fellowship of the Ring.

Question: you say above “Now, you begin a new level proper with four Hobbits in your team. You’ll have Frodo, Sam, Merry and Pippin together.”… but I only have Frodo and Sam. That means when I get to the fishing part, I’m completely stuck – because I don’t have a character who can fish.

I’ve tried restarting, but it only lets me restart back to the Gandalf fight, and when I make it back to the Hobbits… again, only Frodo and Sam are there.

Any suggestions on what I can do? Even if I have to force restart the whole level to try again, fine – but I can’t even get it to do that.

Use Gollum to do the fishing!

    On December 9, 2012 at 5:23 pm

In this taming Gollum level, I cannot switch weapons with Frodo’s to choose the light so that I can go in the cave. I’m not really sure what to do next since I can’t access that fish without it. Any suggestions?

If you’re unable to switch weapons/items, try simply walking into the dark cave with Frodo. He’ll automatically take out his light for you, which is really handy.

Let me know if that helps, or if you encounter any other problems.

Regarding the checkered pattern of Lego bricks with the boulder: you have to give the boulder a good push so that it falls, then topples over to create a path for Isildur. If you just nudge it off the pattern, the boulder will stand up in the lava and not topple. If this happens, restart the level and really put your shoulder into it next time, Elrond.

Melissa, regarding using the fishing pole, you can play any combination of the four Hobbits (use Z or C to change characters). You just can’t be the same Hobbit at once.

    On December 30, 2012 at 10:11 pm

Melissa — I had the same issue and finally figured out the answer. You actually can play with all four characters on the Wii version (and most likely all versions of course), even though it only shows two at a time. You start with Frodo and Sam, but if you hold down “C” you can switch characters and pick Merry. This allows you to fish and move throw the river portion of this level. I hope that helps!

Are you fighting the ghost leader at the end of the level? If so, make sure you hit him with Aragorn’s sword during the fight — can you give a little more description? I’ll try to help however I can.

    Thanks for the comment, Kerry!

what is used to break shining objects through out the game

    Kevin Thielenhaus

    On February 19, 2013 at 3:00 am

There are two ways to break shiny objects. You can buy fireworks at the mithril shop, if you can unlock it — or you can buy the Berserker character after finishing Helm’s Deep during the campaign. Either of those explosive choices should allow you to destroy shiny bricks.

I am on the level and I accidently played as Frodo the whole time and now Sam can’t wear any armor. What can I do? Frodo has both helmets and breast pieces and we aren’t disguised.

Sadly, you might need to restart from the beginning. I had to do the same thing while playing, make sure you collect the armor in order. I collected the armor out of order my first time, and some weird bugs show up that’ll stop your progress dead.

I’m stuck at the end of level three….the pass of caradhras….have put the pieces in the door, built the fire pit and collected two of the fire pieces. But the one behind the “wood wall” I can not get to. Walkthrough says to just smash it….have tried every character available to me and no one breaks it….really getting frustrated….any suggestions. Have restarted level already.

Stuck in the Mines of Moria:
We are stuck in the Mines of Moria. We have smashed the two chests and finished the well. We have unlocked the chest with the key and found the gear. We have smashed the wall and found the crank. We have installed the gear and the crank (in that order). Once the crank is in place, we get the sign to turn it and can see the little meter, but the crank will not turn. ALl the characters go to the crank and put their hands on it, but it does not turn. We have tried all available characters. We have gone back several times and tried completing the various sections in a different order, but nothing seems to work. The game was purchased from a chain store. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Weird. We’re having the same problem as Kerry a year ago. At the end of Paths of the Dead, we kill the King of the Dead on the first platform, then on the second. Then we build the four columns for the third stage. We fight him atop each platform, then he destroys it and keeps flying from platform location to platform location, including the platforms that have already been destroyed. After fighting him on the fourth platform, he destroys that one too, but keeps flying around.

I just watched a video walkthrough, and there, as soon as the King was defeated on hte fourth platform, it went to a cutscene without showing him destroying that platform. So I think we must have a buggy version of the game. Is that possible?
