The Fellowship of the Ring

The Two Towers

The Return of the King

Taming Gollum

Before starting the first level, you’ll need to reach it! Follow the path of ghost studs up the hill. It’s a short walk! Once you reach the big clear pointer, the level proper will begin.

Once the level starts, you’ll be in control of Gandalf on a snowy peak. Run up the hill to your left to find some blue, red, green, and yellow bricks under snow and ice.

Break all three Tetris-type blocks free, and Gandalf will be able to pick them up and place them on the purple Lego base.

If you’re not sure what to do, look at the clue just right of the cliff’s ledge. Pick up and place the yellow block on the left side of the purple base.

Next, place the blue square on the right side. Place the green block between the yellow and the blue, then place the red block on top of the blue square.

With all the Tetris blocks in plac, you can climb up the Lego bricks to reach the path leading further up! Up and around the snowy path, you’ll find a ruined tower. Once you get close, hopping bricks will drop down, letting Gandalf construct the pieces.

Once the pieces are put together, climb the steps up and around to find a wooden Lego brick marked with some orange. Smash it and more steps will drop down. Run up further!

As you near the top, the Balrog will appear! Dodge his fire-whips attack by jumping. After a few attacks, lightning will strike! In the left corner of the arena, a glowing light will appear.

Interact with the glowing circle with Gandalf to use the lightning! Point the lightning at the glowing orange bricks on the monster’s wings.

The Balrog will now attack with his sword! Jump to dodge the sword strike, and wait until lightning strikes again. Aim for the right wing, now! Whichever wing is still glowing red, that’s your target.

Go one more round, and use the lightning on the Lego bricks just below the Balrog’s head. That’ll defeat the monster, and return you to Frodo and Sam.

Ahead, you can spot an ugly creature eating fish. That’s Gollum! To make him happy, you’ll need to collect six fish and place them in the bucket.

The first fish is just below the bucket, the second fish is on the ground in the open near where you started.

Run right to find a glowing gold yellow Lego stud in the rock. Use Sam to interact to throw Elven rope, allowing him to climp up to the ledge above.

Up on the ledge, smash all the plants and build the hopping bricks to construct a ladder. Climb up and collect your next fish! Three more to go.

Further right, switch to Frodo and select the Phial of Galadriel, or the blue bottle of light. There’s a dark cave, equip the light and get near to light up the darkness. Inside, there’s Lego soil for Sam to dig up. Once dug, a fish will pop out! Collect it.

Only two fish to go! Right of the cave is a place Sam can plant a tree. Do so, and a plant will grow! Before jumping up, push the big collar on the push-able surface right, and then up into the corner.

Now you can climb the plan and use the pushed pillar to jump right across.

In this new area, dig up the brown blocks at the base of the dead Lego plants to create a fire-circle. But, to light it up you’ll need three Lego bundles of wood.

Find your first bundle toward the foreground, smash the Lego brown plants to find a wooden bundle. Smash the brown Lego plants just right of the camp circle next.

The last bundle is behind a wall of Lego bricks to the left of the fire-circle. Break down the wall, then destroy the Lego bricks in the corner to find the last wooden piece.

Return to the fire, place all the bundles, then light it with Sam. The fire will burn away the Lego plants covering up the hand holds leading up to a ledge with another fish!

Use the newly uncovered hand holds to jump up to the fish and grab it. One more to go.

Keep moving right, down the slope until you find a cracked Lego brick. Sadly, you can’t break it yet, but there’s a lot of Lego objects to the right of the cracked brick. Smash up all the Lego objects here to reveal Lego soil!

Use Sam to dig up the soil, and construct the Lego bricks that pop up to create a gold hook. Use Sam’s Elven rope and climb up to the high ledge.

On the first ledge, plant on the Lego soil to make a path for Frodo! Switch to Frodo and use the glowing phial. Use the tiny door to appear even high, next to a hand hold. Jump onto it and shimmy left to find a dark cave where your phial will light the way.

Inside the cave, you’ll find the last fish! Now to return to the fish-bucket. To quickly return, keep moving right until you find a large rock sitting on a push-able surface. Push the rock right until it falls down, creating steps right back to the starting point.

Place all the fish in the basket, and the gate will close, allowing you to leave.

In the next scene, Gollum is crawling around throwing Lego objects at you! Pick up the fish, and throw it at Gollum!

The little critter will jump off the wall and try to eat. This is Sam’s chance, stand in the glowing light to rope-up Gollum! Hold down the button until Gollum escapes and attacks Sam!

Fight Gollum off after he pounces by mashing the attack button! Attack enough, and Gollum will retreat, minus one heart.

To get Gollum down again, you’ll need more fish! To start your search, use Sam’s Elven Rope on the gold hook to your left. Climb up to the platform with the alternating silver and gold Lego studs. Smash the plant up there to discover a stick.

Pick up the stick, then jump down. Ahead of the dark cave is Lego soil Sam can dig up with his spade, dig it up completely and build the bricks to place a gold hook above Sam.

With the gold hook is place, use Sam’s Elven Rope to pull the Lego object down, leaving behind a smaller hook.

Grab the hook and attack it to the stick. Now you have a stick a hook!
Switch to Frodo, and remove the Phial to light the dark cave under Gollum. Once the cave is light up, use Sam to smash the brown object inside to find the last Lego item you need to build the Fishing Pole.

With the pole in hand, run over to the Lego jetty to begin fishing. Press the buttons as they appear on screen to catch yourself a fish. Pick it up, and throw it at Gollum.

Just like before, Gollum will jump down and start eating. Use Sam’s rope on the light circle, and Gollum will attack. Mash the attack button after he pounces.

For the final fish, simply use the Lego jetty a second time. Do it all one more time to defeat Gollum and finish the level.

Still on the road to Mordor, Sam and Frodo will be joined by Gollum. Follow the ghostly studs down the hill toward the Black Gates ahead.

As you reach the marsh, the next level will begin.

    Question: you say above “Now, you begin a new level proper with four Hobbits in your team. You’ll have Frodo, Sam, Merry and Pippin together.”… but I only have Frodo and Sam. That means when I get to the fishing part, I’m completely stuck – because I don’t have a character who can fish.

    I’ve tried restarting, but it only lets me restart back to the Gandalf fight, and when I make it back to the Hobbits… again, only Frodo and Sam are there.

    Any suggestions on what I can do? Even if I have to force restart the whole level to try again, fine – but I can’t even get it to do that.

    In this taming Gollum level, I cannot switch weapons with Frodo’s to choose the light so that I can go in the cave. I’m not really sure what to do next since I can’t access that fish without it. Any suggestions?

    @Nicole,

    If you’re unable to switch weapons/items, try simply walking into the dark cave with Frodo. He’ll automatically take out his light for you, which is really handy.

    Let me know if that helps, or if you encounter any other problems.

    Regarding the checkered pattern of Lego bricks with the boulder: you have to give the boulder a good push so that it falls, then topples over to create a path for Isildur. If you just nudge it off the pattern, the boulder will stand up in the lava and not topple. If this happens, restart the level and really put your shoulder into it next time, Elrond.

    Melissa, regarding using the fishing pole, you can play any combination of the four Hobbits (use Z or C to change characters). You just can’t be the same Hobbit at once.

    Melissa — I had the same issue and finally figured out the answer. You actually can play with all four characters on the Wii version (and most likely all versions of course), even though it only shows two at a time. You start with Frodo and Sam, but if you hold down “C” you can switch characters and pick Merry. This allows you to fish and move throw the river portion of this level. I hope that helps!

    @Kerry,

    Are you fighting the ghost leader at the end of the level? If so, make sure you hit him with Aragorn’s sword during the fight — can you give a little more description? I’ll try to help however I can.

    Thanks for the comment, Kerry!

    what is used to break shining objects through out the game

    Kevin Thielenhaus

    On February 19, 2013 at 3:00 am

    @jim,

    There are two ways to break shiny objects. You can buy fireworks at the mithril shop, if you can unlock it — or you can buy the Berserker character after finishing Helm’s Deep during the campaign. Either of those explosive choices should allow you to destroy shiny bricks.

    I am on the level and I accidently played as Frodo the whole time and now Sam can’t wear any armor. What can I do? Frodo has both helmets and breast pieces and we aren’t disguised.

    @Jennifer,

    Sadly, you might need to restart from the beginning. I had to do the same thing while playing, make sure you collect the armor in order. I collected the armor out of order my first time, and some weird bugs show up that’ll stop your progress dead.

    I’m stuck at the end of level three….the pass of caradhras….have put the pieces in the door, built the fire pit and collected two of the fire pieces. But the one behind the “wood wall” I can not get to. Walkthrough says to just smash it….have tried every character available to me and no one breaks it….really getting frustrated….any suggestions. Have restarted level already.

    Stuck in the Mines of Moria:
    We are stuck in the Mines of Moria. We have smashed the two chests and finished the well. We have unlocked the chest with the key and found the gear. We have smashed the wall and found the crank. We have installed the gear and the crank (in that order). Once the crank is in place, we get the sign to turn it and can see the little meter, but the crank will not turn. ALl the characters go to the crank and put their hands on it, but it does not turn. We have tried all available characters. We have gone back several times and tried completing the various sections in a different order, but nothing seems to work. The game was purchased from a chain store. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

    Weird. We’re having the same problem as Kerry a year ago. At the end of Paths of the Dead, we kill the King of the Dead on the first platform, then on the second. Then we build the four columns for the third stage. We fight him atop each platform, then he destroys it and keeps flying from platform location to platform location, including the platforms that have already been destroyed. After fighting him on the fourth platform, he destroys that one too, but keeps flying around.

    I just watched a video walkthrough, and there, as soon as the King was defeated on hte fourth platform, it went to a cutscene without showing him destroying that platform. So I think we must have a buggy version of the game. Is that possible?
