The Dead Marshes

Appearing in the spooky swamp, you’ll have your pick of Frodo, Sam, or Gollum.

Follow Gollum, he’ll show you the way through the water. A trail of silver and gold Lego studs will help guide you forward.

Nearing Gollum across the first swamp, you’ll be stopped by green spectral flames! You’ll need to collect a special item to douse these fires.

Switch to Sam and use his spade to dig up the wooden buck from the Lego soil, then use the bucket on the pool of water left of the fires.

Now you’ll have a bucket full of water. Use the bucket on the green flames to put out the fire, then cross the swamp, making sure to follow the light-up path. Don’t stray!

More fires will appear at the next stop, when Gollum jumps onto large lily pads. Sam can plant in Lego soil left of the fires, allowing both hobbits to jump up to the high ledge above.

Use Sam again to start a fire on the large Lego tree. It will fall, and down below you’ll find a pool of water. Fill your bucket again, and return right back to the spectral fires.

Jump across each of the four lily pads to reach more dry ground. Gollum will run, and another flame wall will stop you. Right of the fires, you can find brown Lego platforms sitting on grey Lego bricks in the water.

Walk onto the platforms and stand on the grey Lego bricks to discover that they’re a submerged skeleton! Standing on them will also raise a plant bridge allowing you to continue right.

Cross the new bridge and fill your bucket with water. Now you can return to the green fire and put it out.

Follow Gollum’s path through the swamp, and eventually you’ll reach dry land. But, a fire will block your way again.

To find water, jump across the lily pad and jump onto the dark green circle of the plant to produce a water pool. Leave Frodo to stand on the switch while Sam collects the water.

Collect the water and douse the flames to continue after Gollum. On a large island, new flames will appear to your right. Head up and left to find a tree with a gold hook.

Use Sam’s rope on the gold hook to make a bridge, then run across and cross through the skeleton on your right. Inside the skeleton is another gold hook. Use Sam’s rope again to rise the skull, making a new path for the hobbits.

Go back to the main island, and run to the right side, where Gollum ran, but don’t go into the swamp yet. Instead look up to see the raised skull has made a bridge to the water pool.

Collect some water with Sam’s bucket, and move right, putting out the flames in the swamp as you chase Gollum closer to the large tree.

Halfway across the swamp path, Gollum will run again and leave a green fire blocking you before you can reach the next large island.

Above you should be a smaller island. Jump to it from the lily pad, then use Frodo’s light to explore the dark alcove in the stumpy tree.

Inside the tree, there are parts to construct. Build them to form a gold hook, which Sam can use his rope on to pull out a plug on the tree and leave some water behind.

Collect the water with Sam’s bucket, then put out the fire to reach another new island.

Here, the peaceful swamp trip is interrupted by Black Riders in the sky! The riders will attack, unless Frodo equips his magic clock. The Elven Cloak will turn him invisible, give it a try to ward off the rider.

Keep the cloak on long enough until Gollum runs and cuts a path through the swamp. On each island, Sam will also need to be hidden, usually there’s a hiding spot for him to take behind a tree trunk. Follow it to another island on the right.

Repeat the process on the second island. Hide using the cloak until Gollum runs and makes a path. On the third island, do it again!

Gollum will make a fourth passage through the swamp, follow it to the fourth island. You know what to do, hide with the Elven Cloak!

On the fifth island, there’s a large tree trunk, but Sam can’t hide in it until Frodo lights up the darkness. Once the alcove is lit, Sam can hide there while Frodo uses the invisibility cloak.

On the sixth island, the hobbits will need to work together. Further right, the path will end thanks to a gap in the ground and a pool of water.

To cross the water, use Sam’s rope to swing over the water. Then, walk up the hill and stand on the brown Lego platform. Doing so will raise a platform so Frodo can move right toward a Lego tree.

Attack the Lego tree to make a new bridge for Sam and Frodo to cross toward Gollum.

Follow Gollum through the swamp unti you reach an island blocked by a large fallen tree. Use Sam to start a fire and burn a path through the tree.

Past the tree, use Frodo’s cloak to hide while Sam hides in the tree trunk. Once the rider passes, Gollum will make another new path toward another new island. Go after him!

On the next island, you’ll find a Lego tree and a broken Lego bridge blocking your path. Use Sam’s rope to pull down a tree limb, and construct the hopping bricks that break out once you do.

The tree bricks fix the bridge, allowing you to cross, where you’ll find Gollum waiting up on a high ledge. To reach him, use Sam to plant a tree in the Lego soil at the end of the brown path.

Once the plant is bloomed, jump up to the ledge and follow Gollum. He’ll lead you far from Mordor, where you’ll run into a band of strange humans serving Sauron!

Instead of playing as the hobbits, you’ll play as two humans – Faramir and Madril. Your goal now is to defeat both of the giant Elephants.

To take them down, start by destroying the left Lego tree and constructing the bricks that bounce out. You’ll be able to build a trampoline. Use it to jump onto the ropes swinging off the Elephant’s side as it walks by.

Once you’re inside, beat up the soldiers to find a rope item. Pick it up, then use the rope while standing on the left side of the Elephant harness to fight the tamer at the top.

Mash attack to defeat the tamer, and you’ll pop back off. Now, you just need to defeat the second one.

A second trampoline can be built with parts from the broken tree on the right. Build it, and wait for the Elephant to pass to jump up and reach the ropes hanging off it’s side.

Climb up the ropes, take out the guards, then use the rope to reach the tamer at the top. Defeat him, and you’ll complete the level.

Continuing the story, you’ll appear on a mountain pass in Middle-Earth with Sam, Frodo, Gollum, Madril, and Faramir.

Follow the mountain pass, but you’ll soon discover that you can’t continue the path of Frodo until the gaze of Sauron has moved.

To do so, hold down the character-switching button, and you’ll see you can also choose from Gimli, Aragorn, and Legolas.

Switch to Aragorn, and you’ll appear in a different part of Middle-Earth. Follow the ghostly studs toward the dark forest to begin their next level.

    Question: you say above “Now, you begin a new level proper with four Hobbits in your team. You’ll have Frodo, Sam, Merry and Pippin together.”… but I only have Frodo and Sam. That means when I get to the fishing part, I’m completely stuck – because I don’t have a character who can fish.

    I’ve tried restarting, but it only lets me restart back to the Gandalf fight, and when I make it back to the Hobbits… again, only Frodo and Sam are there.

    Any suggestions on what I can do? Even if I have to force restart the whole level to try again, fine – but I can’t even get it to do that.

    Use Gollum to do the fishing!

    In this taming Gollum level, I cannot switch weapons with Frodo’s to choose the light so that I can go in the cave. I’m not really sure what to do next since I can’t access that fish without it. Any suggestions?

    @Nicole,

    If you’re unable to switch weapons/items, try simply walking into the dark cave with Frodo. He’ll automatically take out his light for you, which is really handy.

    Let me know if that helps, or if you encounter any other problems.

    Regarding the checkered pattern of Lego bricks with the boulder: you have to give the boulder a good push so that it falls, then topples over to create a path for Isildur. If you just nudge it off the pattern, the boulder will stand up in the lava and not topple. If this happens, restart the level and really put your shoulder into it next time, Elrond.

    Melissa, regarding using the fishing pole, you can play any combination of the four Hobbits (use Z or C to change characters). You just can’t be the same Hobbit at once.

    Melissa — I had the same issue and finally figured out the answer. You actually can play with all four characters on the Wii version (and most likely all versions of course), even though it only shows two at a time. You start with Frodo and Sam, but if you hold down “C” you can switch characters and pick Merry. This allows you to fish and move throw the river portion of this level. I hope that helps!

    @Kerry,

    Are you fighting the ghost leader at the end of the level? If so, make sure you hit him with Aragorn’s sword during the fight — can you give a little more description? I’ll try to help however I can.

    Thanks for the comment, Kerry!

    what is used to break shining objects through out the game

    Kevin Thielenhaus

    On February 19, 2013 at 3:00 am

    @jim,

    There are two ways to break shiny objects. You can buy fireworks at the mithril shop, if you can unlock it — or you can buy the Berserker character after finishing Helm’s Deep during the campaign. Either of those explosive choices should allow you to destroy shiny bricks.

    I am on the level and I accidently played as Frodo the whole time and now Sam can’t wear any armor. What can I do? Frodo has both helmets and breast pieces and we aren’t disguised.

    @Jennifer,

    Sadly, you might need to restart from the beginning. I had to do the same thing while playing, make sure you collect the armor in order. I collected the armor out of order my first time, and some weird bugs show up that’ll stop your progress dead.

    I’m stuck at the end of level three….the pass of caradhras….have put the pieces in the door, built the fire pit and collected two of the fire pieces. But the one behind the “wood wall” I can not get to. Walkthrough says to just smash it….have tried every character available to me and no one breaks it….really getting frustrated….any suggestions. Have restarted level already.

    Stuck in the Mines of Moria:
    We are stuck in the Mines of Moria. We have smashed the two chests and finished the well. We have unlocked the chest with the key and found the gear. We have smashed the wall and found the crank. We have installed the gear and the crank (in that order). Once the crank is in place, we get the sign to turn it and can see the little meter, but the crank will not turn. ALl the characters go to the crank and put their hands on it, but it does not turn. We have tried all available characters. We have gone back several times and tried completing the various sections in a different order, but nothing seems to work. The game was purchased from a chain store. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

    Weird. We’re having the same problem as Kerry a year ago. At the end of Paths of the Dead, we kill the King of the Dead on the first platform, then on the second. Then we build the four columns for the third stage. We fight him atop each platform, then he destroys it and keeps flying from platform location to platform location, including the platforms that have already been destroyed. After fighting him on the fourth platform, he destroys that one too, but keeps flying around.

    I just watched a video walkthrough, and there, as soon as the King was defeated on hte fourth platform, it went to a cutscene without showing him destroying that platform. So I think we must have a buggy version of the game. Is that possible?
