Level Up Your PC For Shadow of Mordor System Requirements

The system requirements are out for Monolith’s upcoming Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor — and they might require a bit of an upgrade for some players.

Here’s what Steam’s store page lists for what you’ll need under your system’s hood to smash some orcs:

Minimum:

  • OS: 64-bit: Vista, Win 7, Win 8
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-750, 2.67 GHz | AMD Phenom II X4 965, 3.4 GHz
  • Memory: 4 GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 | AMD Radeon HD 6950
  • DirectX: Version 11
  • Network: Broadband Internet connection
  • Hard Drive: 25 GB available space

And here’s what you’ll want if you want to get a little more oomf out of those magic spells and sick sword swings:

Recommended:

  • OS: 64-bit: Win 7, Win 8
  • Processor: Intel Core i7-3770, 3.4 GHz | AMD FX-8350, 4.0 GHz
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670 | AMD Radeon HD 7970
  • DirectX: Version 11
  • Network: Broadband Internet connection
  • Hard Drive: 40 GB available space

If all that seems a bit on the high side, you’re not the only one thinking that. Sounds like many of us might not only want to think about a graphics card upgrade (my year-old AMD Radeon 7870 HD is more than capable of maxing out just about any game on the market, but it sounds like it’ll be below recommended here), not to mention the fact that it’s clearly time to start clearing hard drive space. That leap from 25GB of free space at minimum to 40GB recommended suggests lots of high-res textures.

On the plus side, Shadow of Mordor’s screenshots are pretty tasty, and it seems like the Arkham Asylum-meets-Dishonored-esque gameplay will entice players. Check out the trailer here for more.
