Lifetime Xbox 360 Sales Top 70 Million

Microsoft has come up with the figures on sales for the Xbox 360. As of September 30, 2012, 70 million of the console shave been sold.

The PlayStation 3 isn’t that far behind, with 63.9 million units sold as of March 31, 2012, but both are eclipsed by the Wii, with 96.56 million units sold as of June 30, 2012. The Xbox 360 had a head start on its competitors, having launched in November 2005, whereas the Wii and PS3 launched in November 2006. That would seem to put the 360 behind the PS3 in terms of sales, given Sony’s console has nearly caught despite Microsoft’s early advantage.

Microsoft recently reported a year-on-year decline in Xbox 360 revenues and shipped units for the first quarter of its fiscal year 2013.

And how many of those sales are from people who already purchased an Xbox that “red ringed” on them?
