LittleBigPlanet 2 Trailer is Here

LittleBigPlanet 2 is coming. OK, so maybe that’s not news, considering the first game was an out-and-out masterpiece and sold like hotcakes. But today we learned (this is actually news) that Sony is set to release the new edition exclusively for the Playstation 3 in “winter 2010.”

If that were exciting enough, Sony was nice enough to release a trailer for the game that hints at all sorts of things that, well, I didn’t really expect to see. Here we have what appears to go far beyond a mere platformer; the Playstation blog puts it best:
“Now in LittleBigPlanet 2, we’ve upped the ante, giving players the ability to not only make better levels, but completely new games and think top-down racing games, multiplayer shooters, flying side-scrollers, RPGs, etc. The possibilities are really endless.”
RPGs?! Holy crap. The first thing I’m gonna do with this game is remake every Final Fantasy game. You hear me, Media Molecule? If I can’t do that, I’ll be a sad human being.
Perhaps the best news of all, however, is that the game is backwards compatible with all the levels the community has thus far put together for the previous game. Really. This is some legitimate hype they’re building here. I’m so hyped, in fact, that I’m afraid I’m gonna starting throwing around superlatives as if I’d been hittin’ the bottle. So just watch the trailer before I embarrass myself.

RPGs?! Holy crap. The first thing I’m gonna do with this game is make my very own Final Fantasy XIII. You hear me, Media Molecule? If I can’t do that, I’ll be a sad human being.
