Lone Developer Making a Genuinely Creepy Game Called Tower 22

The video for this game has it’s fair share of problems. The motion blur is annoying and the sound needs some serious work. But for all it’s flaws, this game looks like it could be really panic inducing. As much as I love games like Dead Space 2 and Resident Evil 4, they put more of emphasis on weapons combat then survival and atmosphere. The last game I played that really made my skin crawl was Amnesia and I’ve been worried that the survival horror genre is dying. Then this video came along like a ray of sunshine; terrible, horrifying sunshine.

Perhaps the most shocking thing about Tower 22 is that everything in this video was produced by some guy named Rick. His blog says that he made the video to showcase the game’s engine, which he created. He’s working on getting a team together to get the project finished, but for the moment he’s flying solo. I sincerely hope that he gets some talented folks to jump on board with this game. If he tries to finish this thing himself, it won’t be out for decades.

The game’s story seems especially intriguing. Players won’t be up against the usual zombie apocalypse or alien virus. According to Rick’s blog, “Uh… It’s hard to tell without spoiling things. The whole story and game is one big quest basically. All I can tell is that you are a caretaker doing jobs for the boss in a big (sort of Soviet style) skyscraper indeed. And after a while, you do want your freedom (back). So the player, codename Robert, wants “to break free.”

Check out the video preview below, but make sure your sound is turned low. The game still needs a ton of work but it’s a pretty amazing feat for one indy game developer.
